And don't let the other person know you have a knife until your real close to them, when it's too late.

If I had to use a knife for self defense I'd be up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Hopefully my .38 or .22 mini-mag would eliminate the need to use my knife. But sometimes I'm not legally able to carry a firearm (in the People's Republic of Maryland for example). In that situation I'd carry something with a little more blade than my EDC Dragonfly. Probably my Delica or Mini-grip. Then if I had to use a knife I would try to at least nick my assailant enough to leave a DNA sample. Then they could maybe find out who killed me.

Hossom
The Spyderco, Hossom collaboration.
From the smallest to the largest Dayhiker, Woodlander, Forager and the Forester.
Had three of them for a while, but just got the Woodlander today. Have been looking for one for a long time, finally found one on Ebay in the USA.
Sorry for so many photos, just couldn’t help myself :D
Added a Kbar for size reference

How much can a Koala bear?
Tis true, they catch on clothing, bone, things a sharp plain edge wouldn't get caught on. The Civilian isn't for knife fights though. It's basically a slash and run tool. You give the bad guy one good hook with it and he'll probably stop doing whatever he's doing for long enough that you can take off.DCDesigns wrote:Im not so sure about the use of serrations on a SD blade. They will tend to skip over clothing and not cut as well as a good sharp PE knife.

Try to do some tests if you can, you'll be pleasantly surprised. At least I was when I did some tests with two freshly sharpened Delica, PE and SE. The SE didn't snag on my denim covered 'limb' at all. The SE Delica did give more 'feedback' to my hand, but never once did it snag or give a lesser cut than the PE. The cuts from both PE and SE were about as deep, the SE cuts did look more intimidating. I hit a button with my PE edge and it went dull on that spot, the SE kept on cutting when I deliberately hit the button.DCDesigns wrote:Im not so sure about the use of serrations on a SD blade. Exactly...I think alot of times one need only make the blade shown to fend off an attacker...well maybe..
