Nothing makes earth so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes.
Henry David Thoreau
Saturday, I shot in the annual rifle match
hosted in my small town as a fundraiser for the library.
Only ten contestants this year
but they all had a chassis rifle with a bipod.
Competition has grown much stiffer
since the last time I was there a few years ago.
Did much better this time with my low budget Predator
and at 75 I was the oldest shooter.
It was like I told the fellow who organized it.
"This reminds me of the Life magazine reporter
interviewing a young paratrooper.
'Why do you like to jump out of airplanes?'
The paratrooper responded,
'Actually, I don't like to jump out of airplanes.
I just like to be with people who like to jump out of airplanes.'
So I added that I may not be much of a shooter,
"but I like to be with people who like to shoot."
The match was minute of angle at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards.
Total of eight shots.
Afterwards for fun they set up a steel USPSA silhouette
at 700 yards. Three shots.
Some of those guys really know how to shoot.
