Nice pic buddy! What's the history of the artillery piece?
Hi Barry . It’s a 3inch 50caliber anti aircraft naval gun made in 1942 . The park was rededicated around 2007 . The bricks around the base are engraved with men from my home town who served all the way back to the 1840’s Indian Civil War . Whistler is actually buried at the memorial who gave his life in WW1 . Going to our cemetery on Memorial Day is very humbling seeing a sea of flags waving in the wind . Amazing some men I knew all my life served courageously and never knew it . One was a Merrill Marauder another survived the Bataan March in WW2 . Just my way of saying thank you .Dan
Thanks Dan!

I had a chance to think it over. My Dad was a gunner's mate on a liberty ship in WW2. His gun was the 3" 50. That's a beautiful park buddy! I bet the kids love that gun.

The ATR is indeed also an underrated design. I have the stainless one. And i remember Sal saying it was his answer to the Sebenza. And i get why it really is amazing. And the cobra hood is just so nice. :cheap-sunglasses :grin-smiling-eyes

That is really neat bit of family history . My Dad was also Navy and had a cousin who served on the Enterprise in WW2 . Dan
