A Bold Jumper and a common fly, opposite ends of the food chain. I can't say I like the Bold Jumpers as much as the Tan ones but I do love those bright, almost metallic colored chelicerae on them.

I don't want another hobby, but you are making me want to get into these close up shots Jimmy.

May your feet be warm and dry and your throat warm with whiskey. A knife in hand or in the sock band.

Haha it's so much fun! So many cool things to photograph and no need to travel very far, if at all.

Spent a couple hours wandering around with the macro lens this afternoon, finally getting nicer weather here and it shows.

Found this tiny Bronze Jumper this morning before it started raining, today was the warmest day so far this year and it was great to be out. I wasn't able to find any other interesting subjects while I was out, luckily this little guy is plenty interesting all on his own.

What does a jumping spider and a moth have in common? Scales! The moth is completely covered in scales while the white and orange scales on this Zebra Jumper are more spread out.

Thanks for sharing the macro world with us. I recently picked up a Pentax Papilio binocular for my daughter who is a Botanist with a corollary interest in pollinators. The Papilio focuses down to 1.6 feet and offers stunning binocular views of flowers, insects, etc.. Of course I had to wander around the yard with them before gifting them to her. Might just have to pick up one of the Papilios for myself.

I'm glad you enjoy them! Those binoculars look like they could be a fun tool, I wouldn't mind trying out a pair myself lol.

Yeah, the Papilio has a pretty stellar reputation for such a low cost piece of glass.

Saved her from another spider during a night walk with the macro lens last weekend, she's about the size of a sesame seed.

Still kicking myself for missing focus on this one lol. Normally I wouldn't even keep, much less share a photo that was sharp in the wrong places but this one of her waving was too good to throw away and is acceptable enough for how cool it is in my opinion.

Got really lucky today and found a cooperative Cuckoo Wasp, they are usually quite shy and skittish and **** near impossible to approach.

Edit to add: After some research I realized there's a reasonable chance that this could be a species of Sweat Bee, I was unaware that there were any metallic bees/wasps besides the Cuckoo.

Not the best photo but I love all those metallic colors around the eyes and on the legs.
