The High Chaparral (1967-1971), Opening and Closing Themes

My dad LOVED western movies and TV series. This show was one of his favorites:

Jim
At first the name "High Chapparal" didn't really sound all that familiar but after watching an episode on YT then I immediately remembered it. It was a most interesting "Western" at that time along with "Laredo" and "The Wild,Wild West".

But during that same time slot there was as show that I still think is good even by today's standards and I'm really baffled that they don't do re-runs of it. I'm speaking of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.>> with Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. Neither one of those actors were known at all until they got parts in that 1960's classic. But that show made both of them household names.

Another completely different type of TV Show from that time slot that I still love to watch re-runs of now is "The Invaders". With all the UFO-UAP hype at this current time I'm surprised that this show hasn't resurfaced more. They do show it on ME TV on occasion>> that show was also ahead of it's time.

Joe,

I never saw The Invaders, buy I do remember The Man From U.N.C.L.E. I think I might have even had a Man From U.N.C.L.E. toy gun.

The Crying Indian Commercial (1970)

Although the actor was not a real Native American Indian, this was possibly the most iconic and poignant commercial of the '70s.

Italian, yes!

But is anybody really 100% anything, DNA-wise? Anyhoo, that's for another thread (which sounds like a really fascinating subject in itself)!

Nestle Crunch Theater Commercial (1970s)

I'm guessing that this commercial was made in 1971 or 1972. I remembered it well, because it played for several years. I was around the same age as the kids were when it first came out.

Oscar Mayer B-O-L-O-G-N-A Commercial (1973)

Some people mistakenly assume that this commercial was from the late '70s, or even the '80s. No, it was from the early '70s. I remember first seeing it at least as early as 1974, or '75 at the latest. This commercial ran for MANY years, possibly a decade or more. Which is probably why many people believe it to have been made much later than it was. It was possibly the longest-running TV commercial in history (along with the Life Cereal "Little Mikey" commercial).

For reference, here's the Life Cereal "Little Mikey" commercial, from 1972, which also ran for many years:

Terriers (2010)

This was actually a good quality show, with interesting characters; especially the co-main character, played by Donal Logue. I heard it was developing a decent fan base, at least locally. But I'm not sure how popular the show was outside of San Diego. Unfortunately, it only lasted one season, about a dozen or so episodes.

The show was set in, and filmed around, my neighborhood. They even filmed a scene at a house two doors up from my house. It was fun to watch this big film crew using half of the block, with their big generators and other equipment. BTW, the crew all went out of their way to be very courteous to the residents who were inconvenienced.

Man, 12 years went by fast. It doesn't seem that long ago.

I remembered she was on TV a lot in the early-to-mid-'70s, then she appeared in several Wheat Thins commercials. Then she seemed to disappear. Maybe she returned to theater acting. I could just Google it, but I'm feeling a bit lazy right now. 🙂

Hi, Rick!

I'm pretty certain my house never made it into any shots! 🙂 It would have been cool, though. That same house on the corner was also used a year or two back for some beer commercial, but I don't know which one.

I wish I had bought the Terriers series DVD set when it was available, but I hadn't thought to do so back then.

My older brother John was an extra in an episode of the HBO series Deadwood. He was made up as a Chinese coolie. Which is weird, because he's always had long hair and a full beard, and he looks more like Tommy Chong, or an aging rock star, than a coolie. He actually had an agent who got him work as an extra in some projects because of his unique look, but I haven't watched anything he was in...

I was thinking more along the lines of the United California Bank commercials that got her career started.

This show is remembered mainly because of Bruce Lee, who guest-starred in 4 episodes. The video below has all of Bruce Lee's scenes. Louis Gossett Jr. is also featured in a couple scenes.
