Top 5 Jonny Quest Episodes

There's actually only 4 mentioned in this video. IMO, they should have included Shadow of the Condor, that features the epic aerial dogfight between Race Bannon and the German ex-WW1 fighter pilot.

I agree with the No. 1 spot. The Invisible Monster was my favorite episode.

Jim,

Always liked the Shadow of the Condor one personally. :cheap-sunglasses

Jim

Yeah, I rank Shadow of the Condor up there in my top two. But The Invisible Monster edges it out of the No.1 spot for me.

Hi, Jim. Thanks for posting those.

I remember the Disney one on Sunday nights. And I remember the Saturday Night Movie one. Kind of a weird feeling to hear (and see) things I was once so familiar with, but hadn't even thought of for DECADES.

Jim,

I think TV was better in a lot of ways back then.

Now it's more just a lot of content, tons of it, but mostly reruns of series etc.

The movies were normally actually worth watching on Saturday and Sunday nights.

I still remember seeing the movie Duel the first time it aired. It was the first thing we watched on our first color TV, after our old B&W TV finally gave up the ghost.

TV back then was so different, I think it's difficult for people who weren't around back then to even conceive of it. There were only what, 13 channels total? Or not even that? There was no 24-hour TV; the channels stopped at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. and came on again at what, 6:00? Later? And they always started with The Star-Spangled Banner.

In general, the shows were better back then. But there was total crap back then, too. At least they had original ideas. Are there even any original ideas now?

Jim,

Around 13 channels for the most part.

TV went off at like 1 AM or so then back on at 6 AM.

Yes, no 24 hour TV period.

Well yeah there was crap on back then too, just a lot less of it compared to today.

Yeah, Duel, was kinda cheesy, but then most horror movies back then were pretty cheesy. Lots of cheese back then when it came to shows and Movies. LOL

The truck going over the cliff scene was copied and reused in TV shows and movies.

I remember when our 19" B&W TV went bad, the main tube went out and they got a Console 25" Color TV.

Was like 1979 or 1980 I think.

I actually consider Duel to be a classic movie. Like any good movie, it can make you FEEL. Few American movies today can make me FEEL anything. I remember being on the edge of my seat, with the feeling of menace throughout.

There was a Kurt Russell movie in the '90s, I think it was called Breakdown, that was clearly based on Duel. Except you actually got to see the truck driver and his family, unlike the anonymous, faceless trucker in Duel.

Jim,

It was reused a few times you can say.

The actual truck wreaking footage was reused a few times over the years.

It was more of a thriller I think than a horror movie.

I watched it again not long ago, reason why it was fresh in my mind.

Jim,

IMO, the better-made horror movies back then had a creep factor that's been lacking in Hollywood horror films of the past couple decades or so.

I saw Let's Scare Jessica to Death when I was around 9. It was on late night TV on Friday night (11:00), so I was watching it alone. Parts of it creeped me out. The acting and the low budget only added to its creepiness. Some audiences of today might think it's boring, because it has no screaming CGI monsters, no boring 'jump scares', only atmosphere. I saw it again about 10 years ago on DVD; and while it didn't give me the creeps like it did back then, its atmosphere was still intact. I believe it was a made-for-TV movie, but I could be wrong. But it was made in 1971, and I saw it in 1972, so I think I'm right.

Mattel VertiBird Toy Commercial (1972)

I had one of these. It seemed pretty cool at the time, though it stopped working after only a short time.

Yes, there were some really crap ‘70s horror films, I’ll give you that. For example, the “Blacula” films. Same with the ‘80s. But IMO, some of the most atmospheric horror films came out in the ‘70s and early ‘80s. I don’t know if I would say the good ones were so rare that they seemed like a mistake.
