That one is really cool looking! Like the purple fringing on the markings of the wings.
Thank you, I was finishing project in yard and just happened to see it land .

My dogs were barking at the back of the house
and it looked like it might be a copperhead
wriggling around in the weeds and grass.
Concerned about the dogs trying to get it, I...
canceled him.

Turned out I was wrong.
It was just an 8.5 inch long hognose snake.
My bad.

Image

After I decapitated him
the bodiless head bit down on my yardstick.
Here one can observe the upturned nose
characteristic of the hognose snake.

My neighbor came over yesterday in a panic , went into shed found a nice size snake skin shed . So went over it was from a Bull snake but skin was in pretty bad shape for a picture . I usually catch them and let, them go on my back hill side . They help keep baby rabbits , mice and ground squirrel population down in my yard . I sure miss when I would get invited for Rattlesnake filets wrapped in bacon on the grill from out West ! Dan

Bald-faced hornet nest in the backyard. I am 100% planning to collect and preserve this one.

Yeah I’m considering just waiting until fall to collect it because of that! I’m just a little bit concerned it might get destroyed by then. I’ll keep an eye on it for now anyway, it’s on private property so I’m not really in a rush to get it at the moment.

Lest people think I'm joking about the bears, here is the most recent visitor at around 4:30AM. Cropped from a security camera picture, so not good quality. Make her/his regular circuit around the neighborhood. Probably close to the 300lbs range.

I've never had bear. Despite very vocal protests, the State does very occasionally allow bear hunts when the numbers get to unsustainable levels, otherwise they are protected.

The pelican is at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach. Not sure about the dolphin.
