I thought we were done with chickens when our one remaining hen went menopausal a couple years ago. But three weeks ago we picked up two more chicks, and Americana and a Rhode Island Red. The eggs will be a welcome treat, but more importantly, border collies enjoy watching over a flock. The birds are just as much for the dogs as they are for us. My plan wasn't to introduce the dogs and chicks face-to-face just yet. But the little ones are fond of breaking out of their enclosure, and several times I've found them foraging on the grass, scratching around in the dirt with the big hen, and just hanging out on the patio with the dogs.

Great dogs and like the chicks too ! My youngest sister in-laws have a dairy farm in Missouri and the Border Collies bring in the cows to be milked . It’s great to watch them work the cattle , love working dogs . When they are done they then round up the cats to a retaining wall by the barn . Once that is accomplished the dogs take off and the cats scatter. Daily routine. Dan

That sounds so fun. My wife used to go to sheep herding class with our two older dogs. It wasn't my thing, but I sometimes tagged along and worked with the dogs. The experience taught me a LOT. I learned to "see" the sheep the way the dogs do. Then I learned to "see" the dogs. Then I learned to "see" the same behaviors in people. We're all the same, and sometimes all that's needed is just a little subtle pressure to get the whole flock moving in the right direction.

I saw this tiny little grasshopper crawling up the wall the other night. I’ve been in the desert over 40 years and I’ve never seen a grasshopper like this.

Hopefully, he is holding his own and keeping the bug population down for you.

He is doing well ! He is positioned below the vapor light so he is snacking big time . He’s not fond of Aphids unfortunately . :) Dan

^^^ Looks like a Cottonmouth.

Saw this little red fox last night while I was walking my dog. This was a little before dawn so it was probably getting ready to start hunting. It’s been spotted with a squirrel and a baby bunny in its mouth this past week, so it’s doing pretty well in this area.
