Well I screwed up and missed it this week so here is Waterfall Thursday... I'll try to get it right again next week.

I grew up in WNY and spent a lot of time hunting waterfalls…granted that was a long time ago and my memory was/is terrible. Would you mind sharing which stream/waterfall this is?!

No problem at all. This is Akron Falls. About 11 miles northeast of Buffalo.

Here's another shot from Oneonta Gorge, OR. One of my favorite hiking destinations.
Image

This one is from California's "Lost Coast" area. The photo looks like it's a black and white pic, but it's not. The fog, the mist coming off the ocean, the dark rocks and the black pebble beach make everything very monochromatic.
Image

One of the fun parts of walking along the lost coast is knowing that you can see bears at the beach here. If you look closely you can see the bear tracks in the "black sand".
Image

Here's a shot of the chaotic beauty that is everywhere in the Rocky Mountain National Park, CO.
Image

High up on the moraine in the R.M.N.P. I found a nice little sheltered spot for lunch with a view.
Image

One of the things I love about nature is that life and beauty are so persistent. One of the things that I see in the wilderness that reminds me of this is flowers growing in the most harsh and sometimes seemingly impossible conditions. Seeing life growing up through a crack between rocks and then spending the energy necessary to form a beautiful flower just seems so unlikely that I find it inspiring. Seeing this reminds me that beauty and attraction are fundamental and natural aspects of life that play a valuable role in the very existence of many of the living things on earth. Nature is beautiful!

I love the waterfall Wednesday idea!

Here's one I took while hiking through the mountains above the well known Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge area of Oregon.

Beautiful pics! You are extremely lucky to live in hiking paradise! :smiling-heart-eyes
I've searched for the best trails in every state that I travel to and no place is as jam packed with jaw dropping scenery as the Columbia River Gorge area. There's so many amazing sights that I lose track of time out there and the miles go by as if I was floating through it.

Here's another example of the quality of scenery that I find around every turn out there. Here I'm taking a quick break under a misty waterfall filtered through ferns as it falls down the cliff face. This was after spending the previous 4 hours hiking to about 15 huge waterfalls and spending at least 45 minutes eating wild raspberries along stretches of the trail. It's a ridiculously beautiful place.

I love mountains and lakes. But, I've also found that when you explore deserts on foot you find some amazing hidden gems there too. These were taken in Lake Mead National Park, Nevada.
