Guess I'll start.

2021 I took up running. Looking to make 2022 the first year where I go on runs at least once a week. Currently the 4th and I've gone on three so far this year, so I've got some good momentum going.

Last year I spent a lot of time working on cardio with various heavy bags at my gym. It was fun but there's only so much you can learn on something that doesn't hit back. So 2022 I'm going back to some combat gyms.

Today I headed back to my old MMA gym to sign up for 6 months. Had my first class today. Hoping it'll sharpen my skills up better than training solo.

I had been thinking about starting a thread like this! Don't have much time now but I will be reading/contributing as soon as I am able.

I turned 50 last November so I'd like to join the YMCA and start swimming and concentrate on aerobics and cardio.

I miss living next to a good indoor pool like I used to. Swimming is great for cardio, and it works out a wide range of muscles. Extremely low impact too!

Will be hopefully getting in good enough shape to ride the 150 mile cycling course at Gravel Worlds event in August. This will be a huge challenge for me. Rode the 75 mile course in 2021 and it was a milestone ride for me, so decided to go double or nothing after some prodding for a friend.

Is the course all gravel? That would make it very tough. I've done that sort of mileage on roads and that's a hefty task in itself. Doing it on gravel would be taking it to an all new level.

Haven't been on my bikes much since I took up running. I gotta strike a better balance with the two this year.

I'm now 52 as of Dec 7th. Pretty well recovered from a torn rotator cuff in late '20.
Looking to add some weight training and get back 10 lbs of muscle. Cardio has statyed decent but could stand some more cycling.

I am going to try and go to the pool more often. I usually walk a lot and only go to the pool once a week. I am pondering upping that to three times a week.

Ah, hahaha! God Bless you Paul.

I love swimming and can always judge how fit I am by how far I can swim but I only swim in the ocean at summer time and then, only if the water isn’t too cold. Ah, hahaha! I don’t like swimming any distance if it’s under about 18degC.

When I’m at my fittest swimming becomes a bit like walking when the water is calm. I get a rhythm going and just swim. It’s a different story if you’re getting smacked in the face every time you swing your head for a breath in a chop but still good and certainly not a deterrent.

Anyhow, I’m sitting at around 68.5kg (151lb) at present but hopefully by the end of summer I’ll be swimming at very least a kilometre most days and sitting around 67kg (147lb).

I’m scared of Sharks so I’m fairly limited to where I’ll swim now. Bondi Beach is just up the road but I don’t surf or swim there anymore. Ah, hahaha!

Luckily, Clovelly (The Washing Machine) is only a kilometre or so from home. It’s the nearest beach and as you may see from the photo there’s a natural reef at the mouth of the little Bay and they reckon there’s never been a shark inside it.

Depending on the tide it’s about 200m odd from the beach to the reef so I swim laps between beach and reef. It’s a beautiful little Bay, healthy and alive with fish and I love snorkelling there too.

The vast majority of the course is gravel, yes. For practical reasons a few miles are pavement (maybe 5 miles). The real kicker on the 150 mile course is that it usually ends up with around 10,000 feet of climbing!

i had grand plans for my health this year and covid is really squashing them. however, between intermittent fasting, and with decreased appetite and just sitting around trying to recover, i've been eating less and have lost 8 pounds already since the 1st. i understand that's not super healthy, but i'm making sure to stay hydrated and take care of myself the best i can. my goal is to run more this year and lose weight every week. i need to lose at least 70 pounds, but i know that may not be a healthy goal for a single year, so i'm just pushing for a downward progression and i'll be happy with whatever progress i can make.

Compared my speed cross 5's to a fresh pair. Little more worn than I thought. Time to start breaking in the blues so they're ready to go when the black are toast.

Today is arm day... Dumbbells indoors for me. Don't feel like going out to the shop where the power rack is... 30 deg F is too cold for me.
Edit. Decided to throw some full body work in too.
