true story...

i was sitting outside a theater waiting for my friends to arrive with their concessions. i was alone in the hallway with my thoughts, staring at a point in front of me thousands of yards away. suddenly, my attention was pulled back by a strange reality to which only my subconscious could've alerted me; red chuck taylors with nicely pressed grey slacks gently resting upon them were walking across my field of vision. the juxtaposition was enough to pull me violently from my comfortable daze. intrigued and confused, i slowly followed the neatly pressed lines of grey upward. who could dare pull off this revolutionary fashion with such gentle confidence? as my eyes moved quickly upward in an attempt to solve the mystery, they quickly pulled clues. a cardigan, a tie, and neatly parted grey hair all quickly added up in my mind, but the kindest pair of eyes are what gave it away quickly; eyes that had spent many hours comforting children around the world. they were unmistakably familiar. "that's mr. rogers." my mouth muttered the words quietly to no one and everyone all at once before i had even realized i had the conclusion. an elderly man who was far less fashion-forward and leaning on a cane for support trailed a couple of steps behind this icon. having heard the delight and bewilderment in my quiet proclamation, the elderly man turned toward me, raised his finger in front of his lips and made an almost imperceivable, "shh..." i nodded. what else could i do? they continued on and seemed to disappear as quickly as they had come, leaving me once again lonely in the hallway waiting on my friends. the entirety of the encounter was so surreal i wondered if it even happened. it was as if time had stopped and this visitor had entered my field of vision from some other dimension and then vanished without a trace before time continued on again inconspicuously. my friends arrived while i fought the stupor i was left in. i told them the story with great excitement, and they listened, though in disbelief. i wasn't discouraged by their quick dismissal, however. i know what i saw. it was him. it was fred rogers, and he was in my neighborhood.

Oh, this is funny 'Bug, because I thought your Mr Rogers post was a send-up. I assumed that just because I'm a massive liar, that you must be one too...I think that's called the psychology of projection. But you're telling a really real story! That's pretty cool, man. And I'm ashamed that I thought others on this forum might have morals as low as mine. And in the "Noble" thread, no less!

nope. transparent to a fault. it's partly why i rub people wrong around here from time to time. people don't understand how i can be critical of a company that i also really like and appreciate, as if nuance isn't allowed (or at least allowed to be expressed publicly). it's fine though. i know people aren't always going to like what i have to say. it's bound to happen.

but the story is absolutely true. i did some research today after your first post and apparently mr. rogers did live in central florida. he seems to have been a good dude. i wish i could've met him that day.

Gotta listen to the podcast!!! Finding Fred.

Also, Bolster you are not alone. I will admit, my post about Mr. Rogers rope cut tests and his follow up show Edging with Rogers may not have been an exact representation of what some may call the truth.

Kevin, I know you are reading this. Come back to the drawer.

If a member were to have possibly maybe ran out of room in the sock drawer, which drawer should they possibly use next. Hypothetically speaking. Just thinking outside the drawer in case this were to come up in future meetings. And speaking of meetings, where the heck have you guys been? I have been making the most delicious gluten free pumpkin cookies with purifying green tee for our meetings and let me just say, my system cannot take eating and drinking all of it any longer.
I think a little enticement is in order. :zany Dan
HAHAHAHHA!!! I am thinking to myself, gluten free will probably have all our members running out the emergency exit! But a novel pumpkin flavor might win all our stomachs.

Mr. Rogers could be a member of our esteemed group. I can see him being a pocket knife guy. Someone did a movie on his life a few years ago, it portrayed a man who really gave 100% to his craft.

Thank you MNOSD members for the kind thoughts and clever puns. Life without puns is a puny life.

2022 has been a rough year, and maybe an unlucky year? Not too cursed?

Only my fish hooks and knife edges it seems have had a good year. Sock drawers are hallowed spaces after all (thinking back to cursed years.)

I have a tradition when I take my wife down to the gulf for family vacation, we scribble the future year in sand. This year I will need to scribble the past year (Vaca is planned for coming January.) I’ll scribble the past year, and watch it disappear, and put all my money in 2023…

* if I was a gambler, I’d have thrown the money into this weeks powerball… the pot is up to a billion dollars.

But back to my train of sock… thought. Thanks for the puns. I’ll try to see myself here more frequently. We all need truth as told by Bolster, like we need a cup of cereal in the morning.
