As much as we whine and moan about the challenges we face today,
our problems are miniscule compared to what was going on in years past.

Earliest Photos of People Smiling

It's amazing that a simple change of expression can make these photos look much more modern, almost as if the subjects are actors in period clothing. In most of the old photos from these time periods that I've seen, the people in the photos have blank, or even miserable, expressions.

107 Year Old Irish Farmer Reflects on Change (in 1965)

He was born in 1858. He looked great for 107. As others mentioned in the comments section, he would have known people who were born in the 1700s, and also would have interacted with people who are still alive today.

Amazing Footage from Amsterdam in 1926

That was the year my mom was born.

Looking at footage is the closest thing any of us will get to seeing into the past. It's always interesting to see remastered film footage from long ago. It would be interesting if there were some way to see film footage from, say, the 1500s, or earlier. Of course, I know that's impossible. But it would be interesting to actually see into a moving world back then, besides only paintings/portraits, and drawings.

Some guys commented under the video that these are beautiful, natural women, who didn't need makeup to look beautiful. Which is really weird; these "women" actually looked like 14 or 15 year old girls. Maybe younger. So unless the commenters were teens themselves (highly doubtful), that's just wrong. It doesn't matter that these girls presumably grew up, lived their lives (however long their lives were), and are now long gone.

It wasn't unusual for girls to get married at 12 back then. :astonished
