Interesting Movie Facts: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Several very interesting behind-the-scenes facts around my favorite western movie, and one of my favorite movies, period. There is no doubt that Eli Wallach had to work the hardest, and took the greatest physical risks, out of anyone in the cast.

One really needs to see both of the 1st two films, Fist Full Of Dollars and A Few Dollars More before watching The Good, The Bad and the Ugly so it would make a lot more since.

The 3rd movie raps everything up from the 1st two films.

Interestingly, the Dollars films were actually set AFTER The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, which was set during the Civil War. The Dollars films were set in the 1870s. For A Few Dollars More was set in 1872.

A Fist Full Of Dollars was a western remake of Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo.

Jim,

Van Cleefs' character died in the last film, but he was in the 2nd film in the series.

Jim,

Lee Van Cleef’s character in For A Few Dollars More, Col. Douglas Mortimer, was unrelated to “Angel Eyes,” the evil bounty Hunter in The Good, The Bad &The Ugly. The characters’ only connection is that Lee Van Cleef played both of them. You can also see the difference in their personalities; Angel Eyes’ persona is very different from Mortimer’s.

Similarly, Italian actor Mario Brega played different, lesser characters in all three of the Man With No Name trilogy movies. But he was best remembered as Corporal Wallace, the big guy who worked with Angel Eyes and tortured Tuco (Eli Wallach), in The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.

Yes, chronologically the Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was the first in the series, but it was made later than the others.

Clint Eastwood said he would never do the character again after the last movie was filmed . He hated the cigars he chewed and smoked in character . His contract stipulated a Ferrari besides money .

I bought a box set with all three movies a long time ago. Someone saw it sitting on my shelf before I had time to watch them myself, and wanted to borrow it.
That was the last I ever saw of it. Don't remember who it was either...

The upside being that I still have three very good movies on my "to watch" list. That's actually not the worst place to be considering the sad state of the movie industry atm.

There I a scene where Van Cleef slaps a woman , he refused to do it because it against his principles to hit a female . A stand in was used to do part of the scene and if you notice his back is to the camera . MG2
