Are you even marginally prepared?

#1

Post by Naperville »

Adapted from another site.

I present a simple year round scenario that could happen: Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall.

Imagine that for 90 days EVERYTHING shuts down. 3 months with no natural gas, no electricity, no Internet, no cellphones. No FEMA. No retail stores of any kind are able to open. No hospitals, no dentists, no service calls of any kind.

No municipal water or garbage pickup, and no municipal services such as police and ambulance.

You can't buy gasoline to run your auto or the tiller in the garden. No new medications or refills for any family members are available.

Event starts tomorrow at 3am.

No long answers. 20 words or less.

Think and answer honestly. Can YOU and YOUR's make it for 90 days?

Yes. & Much longer.
We live in a great place bro.
Winter would be a bitchh though.
If we lived elsewhere then no.- home means a lot imo.
Edit- we have plenty of water(natural springs) w/out that I wouldn't be nearly as daring.

No. In Bradenton there isn't 4 real seasons. We've done 10 days without power after a hurricane but without gasoline for the generator that would be like pure misery!

I hear ya man. We just got back from Charleston, S.C. and, there's no way we would make it down there.
Stifling HUMID HEAT. MISERY is spot on imo.

Food wise we could make it. Medicine wise, probably not more than 40 days.

Judging by the panic here last year over toilet roll, then not a chance!

No, couldn't make it. Glad it won't happen.
Edit; would figure something out if it did. No choice.

Winter, no. The rest, not sure. Water would be the wildcard.

It’s not totally impossible.

I guess that’s just about as accurate most people can answer that question. Even if you have the food, energy reserves and every other basic need covered for yourself and your family, there’s just to many factors you don’t control if such a situation would emerge.

90 days no problem. Sounds fun. A year would be a test but probably doable. We have a small homestead, well stocked pantry, and ample hunting opportunities.

I only have two years worth of firewood. Come year three I would be processing 5+ cords of wood with an axe instead of a chain saw. Still doable but not easy.

Truth is, I live in an amazing community. Folks here would always pull together. I would never have to go it alone but if I had to I could.

I could make it 90 days anytime except Summer. Running out of meds would make life difficult though.

90 days, yes. It would be difficult but doable for the 2 of us. If I had to help the neighbors, 30 days or less.

If it wasn't for meds I could go longer than 90 days provided my house wasn't destroyed. Food is no problem. I can make anything except saltwater drinkable and with some notice I could distill some of that into fresh water. Winter would be less problems than these hot summers with no respite for months sometimes. In the last month we have had maybe two days where the nights got below 72 degrees F. with so much humidity the house and car gets wet at the low temp of 72-73. It's truly miserable without AC. In the winter I can make it fairly warm in the house without electricity and I can always put warmer clothes on. The heat you can't avoid so easily though.

No. Problem would be food.

I would not stay at home, but go to some of the lower (still in woodland) mountain shelters I know. Fresh water, wood (and an oven) would be no problem there. Don´t need any regularly medication, am almost never sick anyway, have some meds for emergency cases.

Have all the necessary gear and tools.

But, as said: Not nearly enough food for three month and not a hunter. I´d actually have to break in some shut down supermarket from time to time in order to survive I guess... :worried

I will let the preppers do all the hard work. Then shoot/poison/gas them and enjoy their stuff.

The real answer is Im pretty lucky. My uncle has a large farm that I could bike to within a day or so. Could make it up there for a while.

Also, I wouldnt mind taking my chances out on a sailboat.

They would be the biggest problem overall. ;)
