Nice post.
I feel the same way.
This is a total survival/bushcraft knife. And, a Jim Dandy one at that imo.
Btw, sharpened mine up and it's pretty nice now.
You mentioned Condor, and I have a couple of those. In particular the discontinued Baryonyx. Man, talk about a dead useful tool in the woods!!
I think they have another version of it called the Bush Knife. But, I love that Baryonyx.
Anyways, my point is that if your gonna peruse Condor and wanna blade that can pull some kitchen duty as well, then check out Tops and their Frog Market Special knives. I really live the XL version.
They're super thin though.
And, I'm far from any type expert so just know that lol
I prefer just one knife for camping, needs to do everything. I will dig into the recommended condor knives as I will need to buy something asap for the next trip. Always looking for that one great tool, I am just currently stuck on finding my perfect Kephart and Nessmuk at this time.
I will try for the basic 5, just sold on the quality of Carothers brand.
The baryonyx is discontinued? I have two of them, and they are extremely well thought out.
I really think they are Tom.
Wish I had gotten two. But, like I said, they have one somewhat similar to the Baryonyx. I think thye call it the Bush Axe.
DEK1 is somewhere between NC and here and I should have it Saturday. Basic 5 is held up waiting on the sheaths, but no drama as I have plenty to keep me busy.

This is hands down my favorite Carothers. I had to think long and hard about the new Basic Field Knife, but I prefer this one hands down. Plus I spent a little too much for a nice leather sheath haha.
I saw that, they subjected the Carothers to way more abuse then the Bark River, and the Carothers still didn’t break or fail.
Yeah man, there's not a steel in the industry that can keep up with that Delta 3v except maybe Busse INFI
from what I understand Josh.
Nathan really nailed it with that Delta 3V.

He really did. I’d love to try some INFI, maybe next year.

Busses does grab bags twice a year, I think Xmas is one of them.
I will say this however, as good as Nathan and Jerry are with their steels, we should all have a dang Spyderco Province in 4V!! It's such a nice blade and the sharpest you will ever see straight outta the box!!
I wanted a province but I just can't justify it. I have the fk2 and the Medium Chopper. Not to mention a good bit of busse knives and the respect. Carothers kinda put all those busses on vacation. Sure they come out from time to time but the medium Chopper handles most of the hard stuff. The FK2 is pretty much my fixed edc. Sometimes I'll carry the respect when I'm not working. I sweat too much for leather. I gotta say the delta heat treat works pretty well for corrosion resistance too. I've had a few spots but they come right off with a steel brush.
Man, I may not have gotten MagnaCut, but I also didn't pay those prices. That DEK3 looks great, but had that been the one to cut my tendon it likely would have taken the whole digit off!
I might have to order some antique micarta scales for mine, however. Gotta dress up that lowly AEB-L .
