Laptop with swappable i/o!!??

#1

Post by Josh Crutchley »

I just heard about this laptop that has swappable i/o. All the ports are on modules that interface with the motherboard with usb-c. They claim it's upgradable but I don't see how when it's limited by it's usb-c interface. It's really just a laptop with built-in dongles but I thought it was cool. https://frame.work/products/laptop-diy-edition

I poked around a bit and the specification for usb-c includes many other "modes." I don't expect you to read this whole document but if you just scroll down there must be 15 to 20 other modes of operation that can be implemented.

Thanks! I learned something new today.

I'm happy enough with two USB-C ports and a dedicated optical audio port. I wouldn't mind one more USB-C port.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
