Foreign Accent Syndrome

I find this fascinating. At least in the first video, they actually did a real scientific brain scan/analysis on it, proving they’re not faking it. Which, theoretically, “should” shut the mouths of those who ridicule them for something beyond their control.

The brain is a weird and wonderful organ. Amazing the things we still don't know about it.

That's ^ why we need more do-it-yourself-at-home brain surgeries. Imagine what we could discover if we took this exclusive knowledge away from the elite "brain surgeons" and did the ourselves.

My wife does a lot of work with brain injury patients. She's a rehab doctor, so her work is mostly focused on serious injury rehab--traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputations and similar life altering injuries. In her words she's 'the kind of doctor you never want to need.'

She's had several patients with similarly unusual brain injury outcomes. The brain is super complicated, and apparently sometimes it needs to 'self heal' because of something that won't even show up on brain scans, resulting in things like this accent change (in order to avoid something much worse).

There's a saying among neurosurgeons (who generally try to avoid doing brain surgery whenever possible) that 'when the air hits your brain, you're never the same.'

Thanks for the discussion!

Something I found especially interesting about the third video in particular is that, in the comments section on YT, someone from the UK posted that the Texas woman’s sudden British accent is not fake at all, and that he could even identify specific regional characteristics in her accent. Which leads me to wonder if, instead of these people developing speech abnormalities that only *coincidentally* sound similar to foreign accents, if there isn’t also something else interesting going on here. But I’m not going to discuss what I think that possibility might be, because that would take this subject down a whole other rabbit hole I’d rather not go into. It’s not something that’s “woo-woo” (at least not to me). And my thoughts on it have NOTHING AT ALL to do with “possession,” or anything like that.
