That does indeed suck...not just for Metal Complex, but for anyone who creates and enjoys content related to knives. I'll be keeping an eye on further developments.

Literally no shock here. It’s just a matter of time for all knife channels, groups, etc on all major social media platforms. We can’t even transfer funds with PayPal...

Re: YT channel of Metal Complex demonetized ...
To be honest, YouTube is a hinky way to make money. Perhaps I'm out of touch, but it doesn't seem like a solid means of long-term wealth generation. The proof is the way that Metal Complex got the rug pulled out from under them. The moral of the story is it's not wise to depend heavily on anyone that does not abide by a fixed set of standards or rules, and who is prone to random reversals of precedent.
My own experience:
I was intrigued by digital videos before normal people were doing digital videos. I finally became competent in creating moderately watchable content. At first I'd share my content on web pages, because I wanted control. It wasn't easy. But as YouTube grew, it became more sensible to use their platform. For a while, I was one of the few providing YouTube content in my area of expertise. Eventually they offered to monetize my channel, which seemed ok. I was doing the videos anyway, so monetization was going to be like free money. At one time, they'd send me a check for $100 every two months. It's not a lot, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp PM2. I never cared to work toward maximizing monetization, as making videos was just playing to me. Then one day I got an email notifying me I was being demonetized. Whatever. It was just a game to begin with, and I had really grown bored with making videos.
The bottom line is that Youtube does what they want. You can't talk to them. You can't reason with them. You can't negotiate with them. You don't know what they're going to do from one day the the next. If this was a characteristic of one of your other business relations--or even personal relations--you'd sever it in an instant. You CAN NOT build a long term business strategy without a solid foundation of principles and rules. Youtube does not offer that.

For firearm and knife videos you need to dig to find their new platforms. I follow dozens of video channels and blogs all over the Internet.
Some are migrating to https://www.full30.com/ Here are the knife related videos https://www.full30.com/search/knife and there will be many more to come when the channels leave YouTube.

After demonetizing most gun channels they set their sights on knife channels. Pretty sad really.

Yup, nothing like building up a little deal that makes you a little side money just to have it snatched away with no explanations, no negotiations, no method of correcting whatever problem they have with your content........ad infinitum
Silence the opposition, take away their money, take, take, take...push, push, push.....

That's just absolutely ridiculous.
So much of that is just uncalled for.

Re: YT channel of Metal Complex demonetized ...
There are a few good channels remaining on YouTube. I watch what I like elsewhere for the most part. When the last remaining channels that I watch move off, I'll be long gone.MacLaren wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 7:02 amI agree 1,000%OldHoosier62 wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 6:51 amYup, nothing like building up a little deal that makes you a little side money just to have it snatched away with no explanations, no negotiations, no method of correcting whatever problem they have with your content........ad infinitum

But seriously, I think this is awful. I don't understand why you tube can't just create a rating system to deal with this. I understand taking down content that promotes violence or hate speech, but Metal Complex very obviously does neither.

Haha it's so sad that this is true. Most people won't even sell you a knife if you put knife related comments in the paypal notes. F****** pathetic.Liquid Cobra wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 10:19 pmLiterally no shock here. It’s just a matter of time for all knife channels, groups, etc on all major social media platforms. I really do believe when they had 25 to 50 employees they thought that way, but after they made their billions and tasted the power of control over 1 billion people it became too overwhelming to say no too.
Google, Facebook, Twitter, ...they all taste that power and are trying to manipulate outcomes and control their corner of the world.

I would make one change to this statement. They want manipulate and control OUR corner of the world. That’s where the evil is, IMO.Naperville wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 12:48 pm
