Nothing specific, but every few months I read about another battery technology that claims it can make batteries more efficient, or charge quicker, or can be made from non-toxic substances and yet none seem to have yet made it to market. I guess I am just being impatient.
That is very likely to be true and coming down the road. The Hybrid Car battery technology and R&D are likely to filter down to other types of batteries. They are putting real money behind it too so who knows.
Anybody use 21700 yet? I hear those guys have currently the highest energy density. None of my chargers will fit that batt. protected 26650 is the longest they will fit at the moment so I haven't gotten around to getting a light with 21700 although there are a few I am looking at.

Thanks JRinFL, haven't kept up with technology these past couple years so would like to learn more. Your impatience is justified, I would dare to venture that corporate interest and monopoly are fiercely protectionist. Remember the guy that invented an engine that runs on water, or the one that runs on air?

My SureFire 6P gets fed the standard SureFire 123A. My MaxLites get fed standard Duracell batteries. And, my Dewalt flashlights get fed Dewalt 18V and 20V MAX rechargeable lithium ion batteries.
All of my other "toys" are feasting on standard Duracells or rechargeable lithium ion batteries (Nikon, Dewalt, Black+Decker, EGO, etc.).

No edc for a 21700 light. I live in an area with a lot of dark spots and the distances I need to see are around 100 meters away. I edc a Lumintop FW3A. It's the smallest 18650 light I could get my hands on. Enough battery life for me. i only buy the budget light offerings. I find their build not too shabby and besides I probably buy new lights every couple of years.

Good on you for supporting the industry and upgrading every other year. Personally I prefer to buy one premium flashlight in every battery type and over the years you build up some redundancy anyway.
Also flashlights make great gifts. :)

You're right, the advances in emitters is impressive and it's often not easy to resist the urge. That's why I like fenix ultimate editions, they take a proven design and equip it with the latest led. That tk15ue is the outer limit of what I would carry on a belt but it will light up my dogs at a 100 yards like nobody's business. If it will do that for 50.000 hours I got a feeling it'll get passed on to the next generation...
