Vanilla Wafers

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

In my part of the country, Banana Pudding is a big deal. Part of the ingredients calls for vanilla wafers. Now, all vanilla wafers are not created equal. Some of the off brands are just plain cardboard cutouts. Yuk. Nabisco Nilla Vanilla wafers and Keebler Vanilla Wafers are two of the best, I think. Of the two, I greatly prefer the Keebler. These have a greater vanilla flavor and they have no eggs, something important for the many who have egg allergies. Anyway, I've noticed a big difference between the taste of the pudding and how people respond to it between these two. Keebler taste in the pudding seems to be better and the pudding disappears fast.

It is coming around to that time of year, again, when desserts at gatherings will be the thing to do.

What do you all think? Keebler or Nilla or something else?

Nilla wafers are addictingly good! :D

Same as ladybug though, I don't think I've tried any other brand.

Not a huge fan of Vanilla Wafers, but generally prefer Keebler products over Nabisco, so voted that was. Far as banana pudding goes I'm a total heretic, despite what I said about Nabisco, I like mine with Lorna Doones. :o

Same in Eastern NC. If they ask what vanilla wafers you used and you say something other than Nilla you will get funny looks. People know if you used Nilla or something else. Momma had to hide the Nilla wafers from me when I was a kid because I would eat them all if she didn't hide them or use them ASAP.

Nilla, no contest. We have to buy them in bulk because my kid loves them. Literally. He named our Betta Nilla. He eats then every day. That and multigrain cheerios. And apples. And he loves chicken...

But yea, nilla. I've had so much banana pudding over the holidays. That's one thing my mother in law can make well... Lol

Yeppers! Also the pudding HAS to be vanilla flavored pudding and NOT banana flavored pudding! ;)

2nd "also", the correct pronunciation is 'nanner puddin' :D

A lot of people like the Nilla, but honestly, the Keebler has more flavor, at least to me. That is one reason we switched over to those, that and someone had an egg allergy.

Wouldn't Lorna Doones be better with strawberry pie filling and whipped cream?

Generally, I'm not a big "cookie guy," but growing up, we always had Nilla Wafers in my family.. silly as it sounds, I don't think I ever realized that there were other brands.. haha, now I'm interested to try them and see which is better!

If you don't devour the entire box of Nilla wafers in one sitting, the cookies go soft! I voted Nilla, but they need to go in a zip lock bag immediately after opening.
