An elegant sophisticated "old guy" apparently ;)
Nice watch!

Not as nice as the bertuccis and boldrs but it looks alright for a $25 watch with a $12 band :p

I have a Timex expedition scout, and honestly, it’s a great design that could have been a home run for me if they would just offer it in a slightly upgraded version.
The quartz movement in that watch is just not worthy of being hosted inside an otherwise well executed watch case. The ticking is annoyingly LOUD and the back bounce of the seconds hand is killing my OCD :)
It’s a well executed homage to the military style of watches and the indiglo backlight is much better than one would imagine possible through a black dial, not to mention at that price point.

Which, given Citizens build quality, will be a long, long time! 10 years+ easily :)

I like those bertucci watches. That's a decent price for a ti field watch with sapphire crystal.

Yeah, I like them a lot!! By far my favorite field watches, I've got a Hamilton that is nice, but nowhere near as durable in my opinion.

Today we've got the G-Shock going...I don't know why solar G-Shocks are so hard to find now. I got this one back in 2011.

So it goes.

I would have to guess, since I'm pretty much out of the WIS loop. Still like watches, but more than happy to just enjoy the ones I already have.

So to my guess. Battery life.
Not sure what Casio is doing on that front, but in later years we have seen quality analogue movements from makers such as Ronda switching to lithium power sources and achieving battery life of 8-10 years.
When you're approaching a usable battery life 10 years, there's not a whole lot of motivation to implement solar tech from an engineering point of view.
The solar charging adds complexity and it severely limits what you can do with the dial layout and design. More often than not it also makes the watches bigger, this is especially true for digital watches.
Another thing is that solar isn't totally maintenance free. It's not extremely unusual that the super cap of a solar watch needs to be replaced within 10 years, which is often a component that is both harder to source and to actually replace than a battery cell.

Just my uninformed knee jerk guess at something that could lead to the kind of situation you are describing.

Many good points made.

I hope they don't go away completely, but they are usually in colors or designs that I don't care for now. I'm definitely going to hang on to the one I've got. I've had it for 10 years now, so fingers crossed that it keeps on ticking. It has been a watch that has required zero maintenance since I've had it...I think I got it from a pawn shop for $80. Money well spent.
So it goes.

Ah, that is very capable with a really great price! :)

I tried to size the bracelet on mine and failed. They probably used red thread locker :p At least I managed to put a NATO on it.

Hiked around a forested lake side trail and compared the Suunto and Pro Trek side by side with my phones compass and altitude information on OsmAnd.

The Core has a much more accurate compass. Altitude readings are every 3' instead of 5'. It has a few more bells and whistles and the larger numbers are easier to read.

The Pro Trek is a bit more compact and has solar instead of a 1 year battery, but otherwise the Suunto seems better in every way.

Kinda big, but I think it'll shrink like the Military did.

Here's Nick's view of it.

nice! i was so happy to find this watch. i was looking for a diver that fit a 22mm nato strap, but i didn't really want to pay $$$ for it because i don't dive. this watch fit the bill perfectly. i do wish it had better lume, but there aren't really many occasions that i need to look at my watch while it's completely dark out, and i always have my phone if i need it.

if anyone is looking for a nice, simple pilot/bomber watch, this is a pretty good deal for a citizen eco drive that i've really enjoyed.
