for a few more dollars, you can get a bond watch instead of a bin laden watch.
😉
Picked one of these up today. Much nicer than the F91. Wish I could figure out how to mute it though.

Nice being able to walk into a non-specialty store and get a cool watch for under $20. This hobby is a lot cheaper than knives........for now :D
yeah... i don't think this one mutes, but it is a cool watch anyway. they make a black one with a resin band as well, but when i got this one, the price had dropped lower than the resin one on amazon. i wanted the bracelet version anyway because it's more reminiscent of the bond watch. i managed to get mine for under $16, which is crazy for such a good watch.

I only wear a watch if I'm leaving the house. It's a Casio G-Shock, module DW-5600E. Those things can take a beating!

Did a little research and all you have to do to mute is hold the mode button for about 5 seconds until MUTE appears on the top right of the screen.

So far, this group has proven to be egalitarian horolophiles
(Enthusiasts of affordable watches.) compared to the luxury watch snobs
on the Knife & Watch thread.

Just kidding. I had to get that dig in because of the watch shaming I suffered
when I posted this on the K&W thread about my Invicta homage to the Rolex GMT
So I will risk it again here. Have your way with me.

I don't know jack about watches, but the interesting thing about the expensive analog watches is they seem to be worse at their intended job than $20-50 Casios. Time isn't as accurate, most lack the features Casio offers like alarms and backlights, etc.

You can get a solar / atomic dw5600 for $100 and judging by the features you get for your money I haven't seen an Omega or Rolex that can touch that.

I joined a few watch forums and I don't really get a lot of what's popular there. Metal bands are **** heavy. Mechnical watches that need manually wound seem quaint. Lacking basic features like backlights and dates in $2,000 to $200,000 watches is somehow perfectly acceptable to them.

Like I said I don't know anything about watches, but having tried on some $3,000-10,000 watches at local shops I couldn't think of anything I like better than my Casio pictured above that was $100. Some of them look pretty slick but I'd rather buy a beater jeep than drop that sort of coin on a watch.

So I've mostly stopped buying watches outside of the Casio brand. At this point I'mbuying up different colors of dw5600's and ga2100 / 2110's, and after I get all the colors I like I plan to be done with the hobby.

Vivi,
I think you're missing a simple dynamic. Being a pragmatist you're looking at watches solely as a tool for its intended purpose. Many Watch Idiot Savants are down the rabbit hole of watches being a form of art and/or jewelry which they most certainly can be.
The slippery bit comes when one mixes the tool/art asignation.

I have a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Automatic and have been wearing it for over ten years. It replaced a Wakmann Incabloc Chronograph that I wore for over 35 years... and, although some of the dials on the Wakmann are out of whack, the watch itself still works and serves as a back-up to my TAG Heuer.

You're right. In that post I was only considering things from my perspective.

I approach watches like I do knives. Find the ones that function the best (e.g. dw5600, pacific salt, etc.), then mod them / dress them up a bit to personalize them (mute modding the dw5600, getting blacked out or green & black versions, dying the LC200N Pacifics etc.)

Just my lifestyle I suppose. I don't have anyone in my life that would be impressed by a nice watch or a damascus pocket knife. With most anything in life I find it difficult to consider form before function.

My post is just a flare up of my righteous indignation. (That's jealousy with a halo.)
For the first time in my life, I'm in a position to afford an expensive luxury watch
but I would be afraid to wear one. I'm so tight that I could not relax and enjoy it.
More power to those of you who can and do.

Just a bit more on that Rolex GMT I posted about on the other thread.
In the original Magnum series, Tom Selleck wore a Rolex GMT.
Rolex provided the watch to the producers for product placement purposes.
When the series ended, they gave the watch to Selleck.
It has been his every day watch since then
and appears in the Jesse Stone movies he has produced.
In Blue Bloods, he does not wear it.

Finally, has anyone noticed that the NATO style watch band in
the early Bond movies with Sean Connery,
is not the correct width for the Rolex.

yeah, that's a great way to make an expensive watch look awful.

if you're looking for a watch that looks nicer than it is so you're not afraid to wear it, check out the casio duro. it's actually a great watch and mimics the diver watch look from the bond movies. i got mine on sale for around $45 and the straps are from blushark.

thanks! i forgot to mention... the lume is pretty terrible on that casio, but that's the only thing i don't like about it. it's water resistant to 200m and has a screw down crown. it's a lot of watch for such a low price. also, i wear it at least once a week and i haven't managed to scratch it yet, which i find quite shocking. i mean, i don't beat on it, but i'm not exactly careful either.

edited to add a pic with the vintage bond strap. sorry no knife in this one. just a beautiful hawaiian sunset. i miss those.

Casio G-Shock (5610-1) just came in the mail today. It's the most money I've ever spent on a watch. I have a Citizen Eco-Drive Diver that I use for Scuba, but wanted something lighter, tougher, and radio-controlled for work and everyday.

I like it so far. Fits nicely and feels good, better than my old Timex Ironman.
