Mitsubishi Heavy to build biggest zero-carbon steel plant in Austria

Here's an interesting (I thought) aritcle about Mitsubishi Heavy to build the worlds biggest zero-carbon steel plant in Austria

https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Envir ... teel-plant

I was going to post it in the main forum but I guess it's not a Spyderco-centric article...

I hope that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries find great success, and that many Austrians are gainfully employed.

I think Austria is devoid of kangaroos... I may be wrong though! :D

Or, better yet: Here is the shirt once more...

Very cool and a good thing for my home country!! :)

The article says they are going to construct the pilot plant at a complex of Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine - That company happens to be one of the largest in Austria, they employ over 50 000 people (worldwide).
Also, Boehler-Uddeholm belongs to them (so steels like M390, N690 and so on are Boehler-and actually mostly Austrian steels)

Voest-Alpine also is the largest emission source for CO2 in Austria (10 % of the total output), so a zero-carbon steel plant really can´t hurt I guess.

Steel production--all metal production--is fascinating. The claim is zero-carbon, which raises the question, "Where does the hydrogen come from." It appears that Austria's electricity production is 68% hydro, which might explain the net zero carbon emissions.

The hydrogen plant uses 1940's technology, and except for the dual clutch, low drag, high speed conversion technology they all run off of the coal plant down the street.
