Wrist Clocks

Pocket knives and watches are two very personal items for some of us. Not everybody wears a watch anymore due to modern cellular phones. I have worn a watch a lot longer than I have had a cellular phone in my 35 years in existence. My first watch was a cheap casio digital quartz watch. I went through a few of those watches until I was older and bought the watches myself when I was 10 years old and beyond. Even then I couldn't afford much better it was still better not to mention I took better care of them also.

I was 23 in 2008 when I bought my first decent watch. That summer I decided I wanted a better watch than what I had been buying so I did some research. In my research I found Citizen watches and what they called their Eco-Drive and Radio controlled features. After a little bit of searching Citizens line up at the time I found the standard Skyhawk AT. I knew that was the one so I saved up and purchased it. The day it arrived I wore it on my wrist almost 24 hours a day every single day from 2008 up until about a week ago.

That watch still works perfectly and has kept perfect time to the second with my computers and phones over those 12 years. Over the last two years I have wanted to send my Skyhawk AT off for some TLC and a Facelift. I haven't done it because I would then be without my watch and I can't have that. Walking out of the house with out a watch on my wrist is like walking out of the house without my pistol or pants on. I knew the only way I would let it go for a few weeks to a few months is if I had another watch to wear while it was at the watch doctor.

My awesome Wife decided to buy my Christmas present earlier. What was it you ask? It was another Citizen Eco-Drive watch I wanted. The Citizen stainless steel Tough with the bracelet. Granted it does not have the radio controlled feature but it does have a two piece case design (No case back), Eco-drive, date window, AR sapphire crystal, screw down crown and water resistance to 200 meters. It seems to be on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to my SkyHawk AT. It's still heavy which I love but with the two piece case design it's very thin. It's a simple and robust watch that requires minimum maintenance.

I don't care much for quartz movements then need battery replacements more or less every few years. I still appreciate them since I love reading and learning about horology. Three things I find myself always drawn towards are anything that tells time, direction and/or location and finally tools/weapons. I think it might be instinct or something in our DNA that draws a lot of us towards these things which is another conversation in itself. If you really think about it and go way back in human history we have always had an obsession with horology, navigation and tools/weapons.

Let's see everybody's wrist clocks or any time telling device and any stories you have to go along with them.

Very nice Citizens though. One is well loved with many stories to tell, and the new one will last even longer. Citizen makes great watches, and is just behind Seiko and Orient on my list, though they sell far more than both. Aficionados still lean toward automatics (Citizen Miyotas are great examples by the way), but although I currently don't own one, I can say as something of a "watch guy", you cannot go wrong with an Eco Drive.

I had a Casio Pathfinder ABC for years and she was just wonderful. Solar, never had to have another battery. Moon phases and tides
I wound up giving it to my little brother when I got my new Casio MudMaster
It has the ver3 triple sensor.
A big heavy watch, but super G Shock tough and super nice too.

I have a feeling my first Seiko will be a solar prospex tuna diver AKA "The Arnie". Two auto's I really want are a Seiko King Turtle and Marathon Jumbo Day Date. I was planning to get the JDD earlier this year but something came up and I wasn't able to get it. Right now I am perfectly happy with my two citizens. I will probably end up with a few more Citizen Eco-drives before it's said and done but I will be very selective. One day I hope to fulfill a childhood dream and own a higher quality hand wind pocket watch one day.

As much as I really appreciate and adore high quality in almost any item. One of my neighbor ladies who I dearly adore has a nice ladies Rolex Watch she inherited from her late Aunt. She told me she had to pay almost $600 to have it cleaned and checked out. So right off the bat she had to put $600 in it. There are only 2 or 3 licensed ROLEX dealers and repair specialists here in the Kansas City area. And they charge almost $300 just to look at a ROLEX or any other high quality, Swiss made watch.

Again I'm just completely enamored at just looking at the superb quality of these Swiss Made watches. However my greatest passions are with my knives and German made fishing reels ( D.A.M. Quick) that I collect and use. And that's where all my enjoyment money goes for right now. I get by with a plain jane, battery operated Timex watch when I feel the need to wear a watch. But if I ever attain a 7 or 8 digit bank account then at that point I'll probably start getting a few Swiss Made watches just for something else to occupy my time.

I went the citizen eco drive radio route also. I wanted a decent watch that I didn't need to set or change batteries. Also it's water resistant to 200m which should work for everything I do. So far it has served me well.I picked up this one because it also has the sapphire crystal which hasn't broken or scratched yet.

I was twelve when Phar Mor had the embezzlement/fraud issue where they went bankrupt from misdoings of the CEO. The local Phar Mor had discounts on Casios. I got one and my dad got one. His had a thermometer on it. We went to yellowstone the next summer and dad watch tracked the temp drop as a storm rolled in and we ate ice cream near mammoth hot springs. The watch I got was ruined through grade school but in High School I bought my first Casio for myself while skipping school one day. When dad passed I put his Casio with a thermometer in a box and wore it occasionally until the strap fell apart. When I turned 20 I was on a flight and discover a tissot t touch with thermometer and ABC features (altitude barometer compass ) but a touch screen activation. I thought it was super cool. Mom surprised me with one on my 21st bday. I wore it all through college but the spring before graduation the buttons quit working and it began to malfunction before the battery died. It went into the box with dads watch and my first Casio. I moved to Denver that summer and bought my first G Shock. It had altitude barometer and thermometer. The Riseman. Great watch. Added solar and atomic too for a bombproof timepiece (more on this in a moment). At some point I was able to aquire a Tag aquaracer that I found at work.... Another stumble across a gem moment where the boss let me take it home a year later..... Somewhere along the way I stumbled across some G shocks second hand with features I like. About a year ago I went to repair the tissot and they offered a free upgrade to the newest model of that watch. Apparently one of the parts became unavailable and they did right by me by putting a operating t touch on my wrist ......

In May I got bored stuck at and decided to break the proverbial steel ball that was the Riseman. Ordered a new band and was disgusted when it came in and I saw what was below the old band. Slowly but surely I took it all apart until I managed to wipe away a black slime that was actually the pressure sensor... I sent it to Casios repair shop The Time Machine in Cali....the module for that sensor is out of production..... Luckily the watch still tells time and maybe most other non ABC functions.... I'm super bummed but now I have an excuse for a new pickup. The Mudman and a Rangeman are on the top of the list at the moment

Iv managed to hold on to them all despite not being able to keep from undoing them....one day I'll find another Casio and steal the module

I have a few okay watches, Seiko, Citizen, Traser, Movado. I haven't worn a watch since I started wearing a Xiaomi Mi Band. Well, not entirely true, The Mi Band 4 wasn't waterproof, so I'd wear my Traser when I was going to swim, but all other times except when I need to dress up (Movado), I wear a smart watch. I have the water resistant Mi Band 5 now, so I need to try swimming with it this year.

Timers are easy, I can read texts on it, I get notifications for important emails, I have a Monday through Friday alarm set. I can use it to monitor my heart rate while working out, I can tell it to monitor my distance and heart rate when I'm walking/hiking. A vibration on my wrist is a pretty reliable way for me to notice something and I don't have to have a loud ring tone.

I still like the idea of watches, but it's not terribly useful. Maybe if there's an EMP I'll have to use one of my mechanical watches again.

Man, the watch I always wanted, but just could not afford at the time was a Victorinox Airboss Mach 6 with the Red face dial.
And, now you just can't find one. Or, at least I cannot. :(

I have an Omega Seamaster that I have had for 26 or 27 years. It is my favorite watch. However, I do not wear it anymore for two reasons: 1] I carry a smart phone and 2] the crime rate is very high, here, and that is an invitation to having a hand chopped off with a machete.

I appreciate fine watches. Automatics are okay, but quartz watches are so much more durable and accurate. When I do wear a watch, it is usually a cheap S&W Tritium gas tube watch. It does everything a Luminox or a Ball Watch does.

The steel case has scratches on it but the crystal is fine. I've also unintentionally slammed it into a few door knobs and it hasn't broken.

Smart watches still count. Also I wouldn't say watches aren't terribly useful because they are very useful in the telling of time. Granted feature packed smart watches can be very handy and more useful but those extra features and format generally come with a compromise. They are generally less robust. I am not easy on my watches as can be seen in the pictures above but it's not because I am trying to be hard on them it just comes with the territory. Doing mechanic work, gunsmithing, different types of firearm training, bushcraft and survival training along with countless other endeavors watches especially get beat up over time. I have seen countless smart watches completely ruined during these activities. I still wouldn't mind having a smart watch for certain things though it just wouldn't be worn daily. I do find the tech and advancements in Smart watches very interesting. Think back to different Sci-Fi movies and others that you could make phone calls with your watch. We live in that time here and now. Pretty **** cool.

The thing, I prolly like best about this MudMaster is that she syncs with the Atomic Clock in Denver, Co. every night. About as perfect time keeping as can be I reckon.

Looking at all these GShocks kinda makes me want one. I do need a "beater" watch. I happen to really the "CasiOak". If you are into fancy watches, you can see the similarity to the AP Royal Oak, but at about 1/200th of the price. But if I bought it, it'd just sit on a shelf as I much prefer to wear my daily driver.
