Howdy folks,

I've been bitten by the Casio bug and looking for a digital or analog-digital G-Shock. I've seen a few of you forumites tout some real nice models, and I was wondering what your thoughts on them were.
I'm not looking for something over the top, just a resistant watch for outdoors stuff.
Don't hesitate to post pics !

Thats all I've worn for years.
My last 2 have been solar powered and they've both been flawless.
This one I have now is a Mud Master, and it's just awesome. Cant go wrong imo....

The time is calibrated every night from the Atomic clock in Denver, Co. from what I understand.
She updates every night, too. Even up here in the middle of nowhere in rural Appalachia in the highest elevation of the Blue Ridge Mountains, highest east of the Mississippi for that matter.

Jeez that's a nice watch. About 5 times what I can afford but it's a nice milestone to have :D

Then shucks, any G-Shock will do for ya, if your on a $100 budget or less.
Really hard to go wrong with a G-Shock in my experience.

I like their square faced all digital watches, so basically the 5000 series. I also really like solar power after having had a solar powered dive watch. (Assuming casios solar wprks as well as citizens did)
If you just want basic functions, you can get a solar powered 5000 series for like $110.

Its solar too.
You also make a good point about it being wearable
I love my Mudmaster, and would never get rid of it, but dam, its big, lol

I own a couple g-shocks and I really like them but I do have one complaint. The digital portion of my analog g-shocks are very difficult to read because they are small and not very bright. I have been wearing my Garmin Instict a lot more lately and I like the easy to read face but it does require recharging every other week or so.

Hi Thom,

I recently went through the same process as you.

This is my daily workwear watch - the GW-M530A.

Image

It has Tough Solar, and Multi-band 6 timekeeping capability. The time display is relatively large, and it has the electroluminescent backlight, as opposed to a single LED, like my Rangemaster. It also doesn’t feel like a manhole cover on the wrist, which is why I passed up the Mudmaster and Gulfmaster.

The 20-second countdown timer is actually proving quite useful for the zillion handwashing sessions required every day now. :D

It might be an American market model - I got mine for a bit over $100 Aussie dollars, shipped from Tennessee.

While I like the look of some of their all-digital watches, I have the same problem. I like the things I use to be readable at all times.

My original watch interests were all ABC watches. (Altitude Barometer and Compass watches) the benchmark prior had to include a thermometer. That function has always been too cool in my mind. but then about ten years ago I got a solar g shock. I figured the battery would last 5 years then id need to scrap it for a new watch. That was NOT my experience. its still working. Instead i took the case off about three months ago and was disgusted by the amount of filth. I had to take it down to parts clean and reassemble. unfortunately i messed up the thermometer sensor and need to send it in for repair.... casio has two north american authorized repair shops. I called California but it is just a send it in and we will look at it situation. no way to get an estimate for a particular type of repair. ALL this is to say that I put that watch through **** over the last ten years. daily dunk in a pool to check temperature or chemicals, automotive repair, sweat, fish guts, cooking, doing dishes, lawn care and gardening and showering with it daily too. I now realize i need a dedicated daily watch like a g shock and then nice watches for the weekend or out to dinner. I cannot trust the watch people that dont have a g shock. they are the only consideration unless you will remember to take it off for most activities that you would not do in a coat and tie.

Well, I think I might spring for a 2110 and/or a 5600 depending on the prices I get.
I like their designs, though in the far future I'll definitely get a Mudman because it just looks cool. Might try one on beforehand to make sure my wrist doesn't look tiny with such a big watch on it.
Did any of you buy second-hand G-shock ?

Most of the stuff I buy second-hand I pay with paypal or the site's secure model. I've never been bitten but as we say in French, caution is mother to safety.
I pulled the trigger on a 2110 and a 5600. I just hope I'm not diving into my third expensive hobby :D
