Thank God none of the guys that I ever had to deal with didn't have a killer instinct like that guy.James Y wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 10:20 am'He Saw Demons and Knocked Heavyweights Out' - Ike Ibeabuchi, the Undefeated Puncher
The Ike Ibeabuchi/David Tua fight was an underrated classic. Ibeabuchi could have potentially gone down as one of history's greatest heavyweights, but he hasn't, and for good reasons.

I hear that if you have a sparring partner(hard to come by in most cases), you can learn Balintawak, which is the art that Bobby Taboada teaches. I'd love to learn it myself. I'd buy the 6CD/DVD set and have at it if I had a sparring partner.James Y wrote: ↑Sat Feb 25, 2023 1:37 pmNaperville wrote: ↑Sat Feb 25, 2023 11:15 amI need to buy these one day:

That book sure looks interesting. A bit expensive for me right now, and I have a bunch of books I acquired back during the first part of the pandemic that I still haven't gotten to yet.

I heard about that book a week or so back and added it to my list of books to read. Not sure when I am going to get to it. I have plenty of books to read/buy. Funny to see it pop up again!James Y wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 10:15 am"Are you a Conscious Response or an Unconscious, Compulsive Reaction?"
This both is and isn't martial arts-related.
I've seen a muscle guy a lot like the P'd-off bodybuilder in the video go off on someone just like that and then get decked. Maybe the bodybuilder in the video had 'roid rage, or short man syndrome. Or thinks he's another Bill Goldberg. Or is simply entitled. Just from this short clip, he gives off the impression that it doesn't take much for him to blow his top. Acting like that in front of the wrong person can get you hurt or killed, no matter how tough you may think you are. Not to mention, it's a miserable way to go through life.

I can probably safely jump rope, hit a bag and ride bike rollers, but after my open heart surgery the Dr's do not want me to lift any weights. If I get some cash though I may buy 100lbs of free weights and use dumbells and an incline bench for light exercising to speed weight loss. All of my muscles have atrophied. At almost 63, it's testosterone related, and I have never taken any testosterone. I'm afraid to even consider it because I was also diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and my own heart has signed a shoot on sight warrant out on me. With cardiomyopathy there is an attribute of it which is known as sudden death syndrome, so for the most part I do not do much, just diet, which I need to get back to.
My days of lifting are over. It was fun when I was totally ignorant of the ticking time bomb in my chest but those days are long gone.
That is why I buy the DVDs to train martial arts. Escrima/arnis/kali can be very low impact!
