Thanks! Had to thank my wife profusely for letting me do this in her kitchen. So glad to have a wonderful woman to support my hobbies and let me do dumb stuff! :D

Thinking about it! I might enjoy it as is right now, and slather it in mustard or something later. I gave it a light coating of mineral oil, but I don't see corrosion being a big problem. I have some old hickory kitchen knives and they came rusty (in laws). I cleaned them up and they have a patina. Might see what this one does on its own...

So many options!

It is indeed a Dog's Head. I like it over the standard fighting/utility knife mostly because the guard is shorter on top, so you can put your thumb over it, and no need to modify. The pommel is a nice touch as well, as it has a hole for a lanyard. I think it's a great knife, pretty slicey in all honesty. Kabar has been making them with higher saber grinds for a while, less wedge-like than the standard military issue Ontario. Fit and finish is great, aside from the very tip being ground off center. Wasn't a hard fix at all.

I really just wanted one because its a classic design, kind of like the Buck 119 (which is in my car!). They may be classics, but they are still around for a reason. They work!

The Kabar D2 extreme is basically a dogshead with D2 steel and a Kraton handle. I have been wanting one for a while. For years it was only available in combo edge but this year they started selling it in plain edge.

Had a little fun while out walking with the kiddo...really enjoy the BK16. Got a kydex sheath with a teklok and wear it scout style. It's a nice little blade!

Lol, yes. Starting to think its too dam much.
It's a 10" blade. Wouldve loved a 7" blade.
But, its still such a neat design.

I don't go on hikes anymore, so I can only practice making feathersticks in the backyard. I agree that it is a challenging and fun skill to learn.
