what is white's move to force mate?
Re: chess puzzles
In one move? Don't see it.
Bishop takes pawn, check.
Rook takes rook, mate.
Bishop takes pawn, check.
Rook takes rook, mate.

Re: chess puzzles
Why can't the King move into the corner space after the bishop takes the pawn?
I'm with Rusty Iron. I just don't see how you can checkmate in one move.
Edit: I think I read the OP wrong. He's not asking for a single move to checkmate, but the combination of moves.

Re: chess puzzles
I don't think the puzzle is asking for one move. It's asking for the first move in the combination that will lead to checkmate.
Re: chess puzzles
You'all got it. White's Bishop takes pawn check is correct! The only move black has is it's King flight square at h8 - one square right, with Rook takes Rook mate.

W Queen takes B rook.
B queen takes W queen.
W rook moves all the way forward to check.
B queen takes white rook.
W pawn takes B queen.
W pawn gets exchanged for W queen.
Checkmate

Re: chess puzzles
Also... if we want to get into a semantics argument for the first puzzle. You can make a move with the knight, forcing a move with the opposing players pawn, that leads the white pieces to make the solution.

Correct!
Re: chess puzzles
I love these. I’ve just started really learning chess and use the chess.com app. I’m finding the puzzles to actually be the best teachers.
Re: chess puzzles
It's easier learning with the book as you learn each tactic in order with examples first, then progressively harder setups.

White bishop takes the black pawn next to the king, check.
Black king moves to the left.
White queen moves all the way to the end, check.
Black rook takes the White queen.
White rook takes the Black rook, checkmate.
These are fun! Keep em coming z4Vdbt.

Did I mention this one is tricky?
You are exactly right The Meat man. However, there is another route to mate...
