Sad News!

I listen to a fair bit of Country Music (much to beloved wife’s irritation) and I generally liked Kenny’s songs.

Condolences to family and friends.

1969 was one of the most pivotal years for music I can remember in modern times. And Kenny Rogers first big hit was "Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town" was one of the biggest hits of that year. It rated high on the charts in this area for quite a while. He followed that up with "Something's Burning".

If I remember right I think he married one of the girls on the "HEE HAW" TV Show. He had quite a sterling career and my condolences to his family and friends.

I really liked "Coward of the County" when I was about 11 or 12 years old (I was born in 1969), even though I did not understand much of the lyrics (since English is not my mothertongue)..

Still like to listen to this song, and always wait for the last verses:

"I promised you, Dad, not to do the things you've done
I walk away from trouble when I can
Now please don't think I'm weak, I didn't turn the other cheek
And papa, I sure hope you understand
Sometimes you gotta fight when you're a man"

Kind of true... Even if you REALLY want to live a peacefull life, there are times when you just CAN`T run but have to stand your ground..

RIP, Kenny Rogers

I remember him. When I was a kid he was a regular at a local night spot/dinner club in my home town that my mother used to frequent. I met him several times. This was prior to Ruby. Then, after that died down, he was back for a little while. Then, he shot to real stardom and that was the last we ever saw of him in town.

Wow! I can’t believe I had totally forgotten about that song! At one time that was my favorite Kenny Rogers song, too, but because I hadn’t listened to him in years, it somehow it slipped my mind. Thanks!
