DRs have found that hydroxychloroquine works to defeat the virus. We need to manufacture this ASAP until we find a vaccine.
I would advise caution. There are numerous threats to validity of the original Chinese study on only 30 patients. The Italians picked up on this combination therapy (they added azithromycin to the mix aka Z-pack in Italy and China). Some, not all, patients got better. This could be coincidence, i.e. the patient was getting better on their own. It could be that the patients had a secondary bacterial bronchial infection that the antibiotic azithromycin helped. Or the anti inflammatory potential of the chloroquine might have an effect.

The typical anti Malarial dose is once a week because of the potential for negative effects. These new recommendations were for once a day?! That doesn't make any sense.

It is not clear which factor is in play here or the one that will rise to the top, if they are effective. Any occasion where a recommendation is made then countered quickly within a day or two is worth your attention. Not action, but attention while the medicos sort out all the variables.

One does not treat a Viral infection with an Antibiotic medication. Antiviral medications should be used. There are multiple unfavorable potential side effects of using chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine especially in at risk populations like the elderly where the presence of other medications would be more common. Multiple medications that all leave the body through the liver is not a good thing and will sicken people that would not be otherwise.

Caution and education.

Sorry to hear that. I hope for brighter days ahead.

One of the Radiologists at work told me that supposedly we will have the ability to test in-house and get same day results. It's a small town hospital so I can only assume same-day testing is going to become more wide spread. Of course we both suspect this will mean a sharp rise in the amount of patients positive with COVID-19. Some people & online "news" sources will start panicking even more.

Not downplaying the seriousness of it, just people out there losing their $h!t are making it exponentially worse by buying/hoarding stuff and going to the E.R. for a cough. Currently I, along with 3 co-workers, are waiting on test results for 2 patients to determine if we were exposed. Privileged patients that failed to inform anyone that they were overseas and developed signs & symptoms of COVID-19. Stuff like that is what is crippling healthcare during this crisis. If all 3 of us were to test positive our clinic would slow to a crawl in registration & ordering.

Luckily my job is an “essential service” working on material handling equipment, but my wife is basically out of a job being appointment based, and the general lack of normal supplies is annoying. And I just WAY overpaid for a case of 9mm, but it’s only going up.

So i’ve been working from home for a week.
My daughter started a fever on Thursday night. About that same time I started with a mean sore throat and my headache went nuclear. So we spent the last 3 days resting and getting better. Daughter has no fever today. I didn’t get a fever. I only had a minor cough. Docs won’t test us. Not really sure if that was it or that was something else. Weird to have a sore throat and clear sinuses. I’ve been reading about the range of symptoms and some problem have nothing. Some people a cough or the fever or both. There is less reporting of the sore throat, headache, digestive issues. Watch for signs friends. We are on our own. We have to watch out for each other.

I hope you and your daughter get better, but are also staying home. If your going out in public, you could possibly only be making matters worse for our society to return to normalcy.

Wake County, NC will be on lock down starting tomorrow at 5pm.

They call it the Stay at Home order.

Won't have any effect on me however thankfully.

A case? How much is a case? Sounds like enough to light up the town. Just hope you stay where ever you are. Myself I lean more towards my M-14.

That is one of the best, explained in plain English, summaries of what Covid19 is and how to change your life to live with it. Outstanding link!

For it being a week old, no matter, vaccine or not, the principles to live without getting sick are all right there. Hand cleansing and a mask, not to prevent breathing in the virus, but to change how your hands and face interact.

Take a look at his face. This is a picture of Tired. Front line Tired, the edge of seeing life and death daily, the thousand yard stare whatever you call it yourself. He has been working this disease for 3 months and he's not sick. Massive credibility for his recommendations. And his wits are still working despite the body being exhausted. This is large hospital doctoring boys and girls.

z4vdBt you should get a medal for finding this and putting it here for all to watch. You just saved some lives.

I was watching it, and it was OK, and then he said, "you don't need a medical mask." I turned it off. You need at least an N-95 and sealed eye protection. You must always wash your hands. And, you must stop touching your face.

The tide is turning on this, and YES, you DO need a mask, and you should wear a mask, ALL. THE. TIME. And, it matters what type of mask you wear. Wear an N-95 or a P100(even better).

The only reason why YOU should not wear a mask, is because the front line medical personnel needs the mask that you might buy. But that is even a falicy. Hospitals do not buy 10,000 or 100,000 masks from Home Depot, they order from a large corporation that sells medical supplies or direct from the manufacturer.

But hey, it's your life. I'm not here to argue with you. If you think that you do not need a mask, then give whatever masks you have to the hospital.

What do front line personnel do to keep from getting infected? They wear gloves, a gown, a face shield, AND A MASK! If you do not want to be infected or make it as difficult to become infected as possible, then when you go out, take precautions, suit up!!!

Hey Naperville, he doesn't say "don't wear a mask". He does speak of aerosolized transmission and it's not what everyone thought it was. He says that a mask has a different purpose, that of breaking the cycle of touching your face unconsciously. And for that a Homer Depot mask will do, saving the N95's or better for the hospitals.

Listen past your stopping point, please, it's not fair to the presenter to shut him down because he passed Your conclusion. We have not reached any absolutes in this episode yet.

Fear and guilt have little place in any advice about this virus or how we behave with it. That video is a simple recitation of the facts that a guy who has been in daily contact with Covid19, inside a hospital, inside their ICU's where the sickest people are, has learned in 3 months. And he hasn't been sick yet. I will give him his time to say what he knows.

The fine DR avoids infection by wearing gloves, a gown, a face shield, AND A MASK. I plan to do the same when I leave the house. But you can do you. I'll just keep doing whatever I do.

#Masks4All

In the last 24 hours, the tide has turned, and the CDC has said that they are going to change their advice. Now they approve of people wearing masks. Wear the best mask that you can buy is my suggestion. Get on board now!

In Boise, a doctor was fired for wearing an N95 mask (while working in a hospital).

The idea isn't to protect the wearer of the mask. It's to protect everyone else by catching anything exhaled by the wearer. It's to reduce the transmission rate--not to protect the wearer.

Some discussion in the (already linked) article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/c ... story.html
