Honestly Paul, the darn thing could have 75,000 rounds thru her and I would never know.
I got to thinking about it, and Hickok45 has a 29 that is very, very, nice and he's put at least 75,000 rounds thru her. (I think most of those were 44bspecial rounds) Now, I really doubt that's the case,(with mine) but you can shoot a darn revolver or pistol forever lol.
But, that's a really good point you made.
But, also one other thing, if she's not out of timing like he says, then she prolly hasn't had many HOT Magnum rounds thru her. Those 29's really aren't the best pistol to shoot hot 44 Magnum loads as they will beat their self out of timing. - That's what I was told by an Expert.
No argument on any of that. Will just add that, if you really like revolvers of a given caliber, it pays to have a timing rod in that caliber and know how to use it. Have only ever found one gun shop that had one, and only a handful where anyone even knew what one was.
Wow. Thats news to me man. Thank you, Paul!
I'm gonna check into getting one.
Most people don’t shoot that much. My GP100 has probably 7,000 rounds of hot .357s (158s at about 1350) through it and seems like new still. It is definitely my most used gun. I assume the timing is still fine since I can still easily bust clay pigeons off the berm at 50 yards.
Most guns don’t have enough ammo through them to be worn out.
That's a lot of rounds for most people!
And, yeah, you can shoot a pistol forever it seems.
Ammo prices in the "old days" were high enough that most could not afford to put high round counts on their guns. Prices now are so bad most things will remain NIB for a long time.
Your exactly right.
I want a Dan Wesson ECP or TCP but, I just cannot justify the price. Before this mess hit, you could get one for as low as $1,250 I think. Now they are close to 2 grand. Heck, even the S&W Classic Model 29 is $1,399 on Grabagun right now and, I believe they were a.$1,000 before.
No, for me it has to be something I REALLY want at a decent price. Other than that, I just have to wait. As bad as it sucks, lol.

FWIW, the nomenclature seems to have changed sometime in last 55 years. :o Brownell's calls them "range rods" these days.
Lol, I noticed that. They're also out of the 44 mag
But, Pacifictoolandgauge has one but, they are almost twice as expensive as Brownells. But, the Brownells rods have a lot of negative reviews
That Pacifictoolandgauge is prolly pretty nice.
*btw, I almost forgot to mention that this 29-2 is a full target model ( 3 T's ) :D
Well gang, that Smith has made it from Coppell, Texas to Greensboro, NC - so the next stop should be my ffl tomorrow.
Lol, but it being the Post Office, it could very well not show up until Monday.
I'm really excited about this 29-2.
The older Smiths have a real magic to them....
Oh..
It's been a while, but plans are on the table now.
- .300 BLK bolt action. Should have had this already, but the PD messed up with my license, so I missed the one I had my eyes on.
- New repeating shotgun. Have a S/S already, but just got a good deal on a shotgun silencer, so now I need to get a single barrel pump action or something.
- PCC AR, most likely to be a Sig MPX
Hopefully this year, but availability and funding can cause delays.
Well gang, just like most things in life, the deal I got on that Smith 29-2 was too good to be true unfortunately.
But, I had to gamble on it for the price. But, it's was so beat out if timing it wasn't even funny. In double action, before I could even get the trigger pulled back half way the cylinder was already fully rotated and when I did it fast the cylinder would just spin like you were pulling the trigger all the way. The single action cocking was just terrible too. I immediately called the guy and he acted like he was so suprised but, when I told him I was going to send it back to him for a full refund plus what it cost me to ship it back to him he didn't put up a fight at all. Plus, he even had a 3 day inspection period which a lot of used guns don't have. What got me more frustrated than anything was that he said she was mechanically perfect lol. Heck, before I paid him I even called him to make sure she wasn't out of timing.
Oh well. Gotta be careful buying used guns for sure
I really think this guy was just playing the odds that someone would just keep it and fix it for the money
I will say though that she was in excellent cosmetic condition.
Sorry to hear that Mac. Some version of a 629 is high on my wishlist. Someday.
I like Smiths and own a couple. I cannot really say anything bad about them. I will definitely buy more.
That said, if that was a Ruger you could just send it in and they would make it right. Ruger’s warranty dept is unparalleled. Smith might build a slicker wheel gun but Rugers are built like tanks and they back them up.
Man, for the life of me I cannot decide which of those two companies I would prefer to get my wheelguns from. Both so great!

Also, do you think a kangaroo would eat a bowl of spagetti with sauce if someone offered it to them?

Thanx & I hear ya Darby.
Those Ruger .44 Mags are built like tanks man.
I love it. I kinda wanted the 2.25 barrel but 3 inch will do, pros and cons for both. Now I just need to find some magnum that isn't $30+ a box
It's used but the price was fair. Gotta replace that grip and I may swap out for a smooth hammer and probably swap the front sight, we'll see.
