Post by PSquared »

Holland has your top 10 Spydercos for 2019 thread going and I thought it would be interesting to see what “others” were popular.

Mine being
CRK small Sebenza (plain Jane Insingo)
Benchmade Bugout with aftermarket scales
Benchmade mini Ritter Griptillian with aftermarket scales
Jason Guthrie Scout
Mcusta Bamboo

Good thread idea. Surprised it hasn't taken off.
These were my stand outs from this year. The CRK I didn't get this year but it saw a lot of use. I'd recommend any of these knives without a doubt.

Hogue Deka
Microtech Socom Elite
LT Wright Patriot
GEC #82 Dixie Stockman
CRK Large Sebenza Insingo with micarta inserts.

Honorable mentions:
Kizer Mini Domin -- honestly is a very good knife that doesn't cost too much
Civivi Elementum -- or any other Civivi. I had a few this year. Great great quality for price. Very thin grinds.
JE Made Lanny's Clip with Desert Ironwood -- fantastic piece. It blew my mind.
GEC #44 Buffalo Jack -- was my summer traditional knife. Love that thing.

I barely bought 5 non-Spyderco knives in 2019... but I did. :D

GEC #86 Oilfield Jack in natural Micarta
GEC #92 Eureka Jack in OD green Micarta
Waynorth Black Jack which is a GEC SFO built on the #86 frame with Ebony covers.
Leatherman Squirt PS4
Cold Steel Tuff Lite

My "top 5 other" are for 2018 - 2019.. because they are the only non-Spyderco knives that I've bought in the past two years..

TRM Neutron
Benchmade 940S
ZT 0450
ZT 0566
ZT 0350 (just barely made the cut.. ordered 12/31/19, and it hasn't even arrived yet!)

All are pretty great knives that I really enjoy (especially the TRM), but all remind me in their own way why I'm a "Spyderco guy"..

..well, that escalated quickly..

Link to Holland's thread - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85435&p=1380910. I had to search it out. He put links to previous years in it. The premise is:
- From the 2012 thread "I used to do this on a semi annual basis and it's been a while since I've posted my TOP 10 favorite Spyders of all time. But I've now compiled a top 10 list of my favorite Spyderco knives of all time."
- From the 2014 thread "This is meant to be your top 10 favorites as it stands today, at the end of 2014 (NOT the top 10 that came out in 2014)"

So, my top 5 favorite others of all time, as of the end of 2019 / start of 2020.

1. Quiet Carry The Drift. It has a thin Vanax blade in an all Ti frame lock handle (other than the LC200N lock bar face insert), with a wire clip. Think SpydieChef and Brower had a child, with a slightly thinner than Delica thin blade, and an upgrade in steel.
2. Cold Steel Tuff Lite - I'm partial to the blue handled variant. I wish Spyderco made this knife. It's the Goldilocks between the Native 5 LW and the Dragonfly 2 for me.
3. CRKT Pilar - Blue G10 show side scale variant. It's too bad this was a BHQ exclusive, and there won't be any more. The standard stainless steel version is still possibly the best Byrd / value line Spyderco that Spyderco doesn't make.
4. ZT 0562CF.
5. Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite. I have the original AUS 8 blade version in both black and lime green handles. I'll be pre-ordering the 2020 reincarnation with a blue handle to match my full size version. The downgrade to 4034 blade steel (Thyssen-Krupp's equivalent of 420HC) is a bit disappointing. But it's not a deal breaker given the size and price of these little things. Again, it's a Spyderco-esque knife that another company makes. It's like a finger choiled, wharnie, Manbug. It's made in Taiwan, and I really would like to have one in a better blade steel.

Always tough for me to choose just 5.

In no particular order

Ferrum Forge Gent
Ferrum Forge Exec
ZT 0470
ZT 0609PUR (anodized Blue/Green)
ZT 0801TI

Honorable mention goes to the Benchmade Valet. I've been carrying that little knife a lot lately
