Some wildlife from the lake today and an OSPREY in flight that got a fish

#1

Post by Ankerson »

Was at the lake this morning, 1st nice day we have had in a long time, wasn't hot.

The OSPREY... Well I didn't even know what it was, all I saw was a brown something that flew in front of me. So I had to be VERY fast, lucky I got what I did as it was a surprise and my camera wasn't set to shoot a burst.

Great shots, Jim!

Are you sure that's an eagle? Looks like an osprey to me. Beautiful birds none the less and always a cool experience to watch them fishing!

Yeah, it's a young one. :)

I thought it was a hawk or something too until I zoomed in and saw that huge beak.

Do you know what kind of eagle?

The markings on the head look like that of an osprey and its completely white on the underside including its legs and feet. With all due respect, I'm fairly certain its an osprey.

We have Bald Eagles nesting here at the lake, that's all I know.

You might be right, was looking at the Osprey and the wing pattern looks very close.

For sure an osprey. Great catch on the pictures.

Yeah, they are actually about the same size so it threw me off some. :o

I waited around for about an hour for the crane to actually start doing something.

Not to hijack your thread, but last summer while camping my wife actually caught video and photos of something pretty cool as well. I was away gathering some firewood and she was sitting by the water and saw a snake swim up literally 5 feet away from her with a fish in it's mouth! Swallowed the fish whole and then swam back out to the lake. I came back and she told about it, I didn't believe her until she showed me the pics/video. It's awesome to see things like this in person out in nature!!
