New 30-30 in the house!! ;)

Yup! She just came in this morning.
Long story short, my dad gave his 30-30 to his grandson, and I was therefor on my on for a 30-30 lol
So, I went with another Marlin. A 336C.
Initial impressions are very,very, good to be honest.
The action isn't near as slick as my dad's older model. But, that older model was exceptional for an older model. This new model is dang good and will be pretty awesome once broken in a little.
At any rate, it seems Marlin is really back on their game.

I took it on the 4 pay plan.
I paid $142 and they sent me the gun. Then > make 3 more monthly payments interest free
The 4 pay plan the Guide has is a life saver imo

Nice acquisition MacLaren :cool: I've always like the side ejection of the Marlin over the Winchester even since I had one back in the early 80s. A good friend of mine has a .444 Marlin and it's side ejector too. Marlin and New England Arms both are great quality for the reassonable costs. Hand loaded a 30-30 isn't as mundane as a lot of people think they are. They can be hand loaded pretty hot for their size range. Sierra and Nosler make really good brush busting bullets for the 30-30 if you're into hand loading. The Nosler "Partition" is a great round for deer.

I've also had a Marlin .22 Cal before too. They are a great gun company for the price range. The .270 is my favorite rifle caliber but there sure isn't anything wrong with a good quality made 30-30.

I had a 30-30 Winchester ‘94 that I sanded the varnish off, oiled/waxed the stock and drilled and tapped the receiver for a Lyman Peep Sight, for thirty odd years till I broke the stock when my dirt bike and I parted company chasing pigs a while back now. :eek:

I like the idea of a super light open sight gun with plenty of punch you can carry over hill and dale and not worry about knocking around and couldn’t count how many pigs plus everything I shot with it and even shot it out of a helicopter.

After I broke the old gun I looked at a few Marlins and nearly bought a stainless 45-70. Kind of glad I didn’t but if I was to buy another lever action I’d likely go a Marlin 30-30 this time round. :)

The curly maple 336 is really appealing but idk if I'd pay that much more for a 336 just to have the amazing wood and blueing

Nice gun. It doesn't get much better than a 336. My preferred flavor is the xlr, but that c should be a light, quick handling little carbine. Congrats on the purchase and I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve never had a Marlin, but enjoy shooting a mate’s 45-70 down at the range.

I’ve considered getting a .444 Marlin for a hound hunting gun before.

The only 30–30 I have is a Savage Model 24V in 30-30/20 gauge. Great caliber for plinking with cast lead projectiles and Trail Boss loads.

Like my Marlins. Still have the .22 semi-auto I bought for squirrel hunting in 1969. Can't remember exactly but when silver was high, I think 1974 sold some and bought a 336 in 30-30 still have it, $169 on sale. Used to deer hunt with it, have shot it little but the last time sighting it in at 100 yards was dead on. Nice thing about the Marlins is the side eject and see-through mounts with quick acess to sights and scope. Somewhere along the way I also picked up a stainless version of the .22. Great guns, fun to shoot. CCI mini-mags :D Hope you enjoy your Marlin, be safe.

I have shot more deer with a Winchester 94 in 30-30 than with anything else. All with iron sights as mine is an older top eject model. The perfect deer rifle for dense woods in my opinion.

That Marlin should serve you well. I will be picking up an 1894C soon.

A good gunsmith can slick up the action for you.

I cannot imagine keeping house without a Marlin 30-30 Winchester. I carried one everyday when we had our ranch. Predators of our cattle stood no chance.

I like the 1894C more than the 336. Has a shorter pull and feels a touch smoother.

The Marlin is a much stronger design and will handle much more powerful ammunition than a Winchester.
