Anyone have any experience/thoughts on the Swisstools? How do they compare to Leatherman multi-tools?

I posted some of my experiences with both Leatherman and Victorinox multi-tools, and why I prefer Victorinox, earlier in this thread. I forgot to mention that, IMO, the pliers pivot point feels a bit more solid on the Victorinox multis.

My Hiker (Memphis Belle) showed up today!! I must say, these are very impressive knives for such a low price. I now understand the appeal. My tools all arrived pretty heavily oiled, but are easy to open and most snap back closed with authority. The large and small blades are both decently sharp, but I will touch them up later. After posting this, I'm going to the backyard to test out this saw on some branches haha.

I will say that I am surprised at how big it is though. Also thicker than I imagined. Going to have to reconfigure my pockets and how I carry things. Took a few pics with a Dragonfly for reference. Can't wait to start carrying this baby regularly!

Now, less than 2 hours into owning it and messing around with it, the wife claims it's hers or else I need to get her one haha. She was saying how just today she needed a Phillips head screwdriver, and working for a bank...no such luck.

Any idea which model is smaller, and would have screwdrivers?

Here's the Serrated Spartan I got today. Really useful tool set. Probably will put plus scales on it and add the ink pen and straight pin plus the small screwdriver that fits into the corkscrew

Here's the Serrated Spartan I got today. Really useful tool set. Probably will put plus scales on it and add the ink pen and straight pin plus the small screwdriver that fits into the corkscrew

The Spartan is one of my favorite EDC knives. That serrated version looks nice. Victorinox does great serrations; they cut very smoothly. I don't have the serrated Spartan, but have a Victorinox kitchen knife and one large Soldier model with the same serration pattern. And the mini screwdriver in the corkscrew gets used to tighten my glasses every day.

It does take up a bit more pocket room than your average Spyderco. I generally carry mine in my left front pocket, or occasionally, alongside my wallet in my back left pocket.

You'll like how quickly that blade touches up! When I got mine it was shaving sharp, but after literally just a couple passes at 40° on the UF rods, the edge was tree topping and whittling free hanging hair. It really is effortless to keep razor sharp.

Interesting! I never heard about custom building SAK's. How do you disassemble/ reassemble them? Just drill out the pins?

Mostly I drill the pins to remove the Head, punch the pins out and pin them back together. The Alox I drilled everything out to 1/8" and used barrel pivot bolts to put it together.

We just checked it out. Would be a great option, thank you for bringing that model to our attention..but she thinks the red scales are boring

She likes the regular size Tinker though, with the blue scales. She says it would stay in her purse, so thickness isn't that big of a deal. I'm just curious if anybody knows if the Tinker is thinner than the Hiker? Both are the same length, but the Tinker lacks the saw.

I would imagine it would be 1 layer thinner so about 1/8th of an inch thinner

Amateur question...I don't see any screws in my model scales to be able to customize and change out tools. Do the scales just pop off or something internally that can be done to make a swap? I'm in bed and don't have it on me to check at the moment.

The plastic scales snap on to small collars on the pins, so with a little care, they can be removed but may suffer some damage. A little bit of epoxy in the holes will take care of that. Internally, they are pinned together so it takes a little more savy to change out tools.

And yes, the Tinker is a bit thinner than the Hiker.

Altogether, I've got over 200 SAKs, so I can probably take comparison photos of about anything you want to see.

Over 200!? So you can probably answer this question...does the Tinker Small have the same size large blade as the regular sized Tinker? The Tinker Small is about a 1/4" shorter in overall length, but seems capable of having the same 2.5" blade as the Tinker.

Nope. The main blade on the 84mm models like the small Tinker is about a quarter inch shorter than the main blade of the regular model (91mm).
