I would have liked that, too. Martial arts actor Scott Adkins is similar to MJW in that regard. Adkins has even been in some Marvel movies, like X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Dr. Strange. But IMO, MJW is a better actor than Scott Adkins.

Many agents warn actors against taking roles in martial arts films, as you risk becoming typecast. Also, the days of becoming a Hollywood star based around being a great martial artist are over. Ever since The Matrix, Hollywood has preferred to use name stars who aren't experienced martial artists (if at all), and give them special training for specific action/fighting roles, with some CGI and stunt help. Like Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Uma Thurman, Angelina Jolie, Liam Neeson, Charlese Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, etc. And most of them can be made to look pretty good, or at least passable, onscreen.

Drunken Master II (American title: The Legend of Drunken Master; 1994)

IMO, this was Jackie Chan's last great movie, as well as his last truly great fight scene.

Fist of Legend (1994). Directed by Yuen Woo-Ping.

Final fight; Jet Li (and Chin Siu-Ho) vs Billy Chow.

Fist of Legend was a remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, with Jet Li playing Chen Zhen, Bruce Lee's character in the original. The Japanese general is portrayed by Billy Chow (AKA Billy Chau) who, in the 1980s, was a WKA super-welterweight world kickboxing champion. This was one of Jet Li's best movies.

Darker Than Amber (1970): Directed by Robert Clouse. Final fight: Rod Taylor vs William Smith.

The fight scenes in this movie were extremely physical for most movies of the time period. Reportedly, much of this fight scene became a little too real, as both actors got a bit carried away. The fight scenes in this movie impressed Bruce Lee so much that he wanted the director, Robert Clouse, to direct Enter The Dragon, which he did, although Lee himself directed the fight scenes in ETD.

The Boxer From Shantung (1972, Hong Kong). Director: Chang Cheh.

Some people might find the violence of this scene too prolonged and excessive. Some may find it laughable. But the scene must be understood in the context of the story. Contrary to stereotypes, this was not some cheap 'chop-socky' movie with non-stop fighting. Story-wise, this movie was highly influential on a number of later films, martial arts-related or otherwise. It has been said that this final fight scene was a possible influence on the final battle scene in Brian DePalma's Scarface (1983). Personally, other than both films' finales having an upper floor, a staircase, swarms of attackers and lots of blood, I've never seen much of a connection. I suppose only DePalma himself could answer that. There is little doubt that this movie's finale was one of Quentin Tarantino's inspirations for the large-scale fight scene in Kill Bill Vol. 1.

The choreography and execution of the fights were typical early '70s Hong Kong "basher" style, with little to no "stylishness" or "artistic grace" of later films. In other words, nothing "pretty" here. Sometimes the moves might appear awkward and even uncoordinated. This had to do with the choreography style of that period. Leading man Chen Kuan-Tai was a Southeast Asian full-contact fighting champion in 1969, so he wasn't some non-martial artist. In later films, his onscreen style was very smooth. But The Boxer From Shantung was arguably Chen Kuan-Tai at his most intense.

Finale, part 1: Chen Kuan-Tai vs Ku Feng, Wang Ching, Feng Yi, Chiang Nan, etc.

Encounter of the Spooky Kind (alternate title: Spooky Encounters; 1980, Hong Kong). Director, Sammo Hung.

Encounter of the Spooky Kind is a classic horror/kung fu/comedy film. Two warring Taoist sorcerers battle each other by various means, including calling in Chinese deities to possess their apprentices. The deities in this particular fight are Sun Wukong, the Monkey King (possessing Sammo Hung's character) and Na Cha (Nezha, a boy warrior, possessing Yuen Mo's character).

The Magnificent Butcher (1979, Hong Kong). Director: Yuen Woo-Ping.

Director Yuen Woo-Ping (along with his brothers, AKA the Yuen Clan) is mostly familiar to Westerners as the fight choreographer of The Matrix trilogy, Charlie's Angels (the movies), and Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2. The martial arts choreography in The Magnificent Butcher was a rare combined work between the Yuen Clan and Sammo Hung's action team.

Note the completely different moods between the revenge fight and the final fight. Such differences in moods (i.e., deadly serious vs comedic) within the same movie (literally within minutes in this case) are virtually unheard-of in American martial arts/action movies.

Revenge fight: Sammo Hung vs Fung Hak-On. Final fight: Sammo Hung vs Lee Hoi-Sang:

Oldboy (2003, South Korea). Director: Park Chan-Wook.

Oldboy is a classic cult favorite mystery/suspense drama, starring Choi Min-Sik. One of the best ever. Unfortunately, in 2013, Spike Lee thought it was necessary to remake Oldboy with Josh Brolin, and even had the audacity to say his version is better (it's not even close...in fact, Spike Lee's version sucks, which is why it completely failed). No American director or studio could ever outdo Oldboy, the story of which goes places too dangerous for any American filmmaker.

In this fight scene (the fight itself begins at 3:50), it is filmed in one continuous, unedited long shot from 3:50 to 6:30.
