Forget politics, religion and even gun control (or is that politics AND religion?) - what do you prefer and why?

I’ve currently brisket and short ribs on the charcoal smoker, along with some aubergine and whole garlic, staying warm by a wood fired chiminea, and about to cook the accompanying flat breads on the gas grill, so .... err ....I’ve a foot in each camp.

It has to be at least 35 years since the last time I cooked with charcoal. Switched to gas in the early 80's, used a George Foreman electric grill when I lived in a ground floor apartment with nowhere to store a gas grill. At present, I go back and forth between a gas grill and a George Foreman grill depending on what, and how much, I am cooking.

I guess I prefer charcoal as far as the results go but propane is just so fast and convenient. For that reason propane wins.

Charcoal. If I want gas I'll cook in the kitchen.

Haven't grilled in nearly 20 years, but definitely charcoal.

For me, gas all day, case closed. Purists will hate.

Charcoal. I can often be seen making disproportionately large fires in the front yard to cook a small amount of meat.

Kingsford Charcoal. Preferably, the light the bag kind.
Works like a charm everytime and imo, you just cannot beat the flavor that Kingsford Charcoal gives. That's my 2 shekels worth anyways

You guys with the time comments, I bet you spend more time exchanging your cylinder than I do lighting briquettes. Matchlight people c'mon. If I'm THAT pressed for time I'm not gonna grill anyway. Grillin = chillin.

Charcoal, but I generally use hardwood lump charcoal over briquettes. Chimney starter with paper, don't even own lighter fluid. I like the hardwood stuff becuase it seems to light faster and burn hotter.

I don't know when the last time I grilled was, but thanks for giving me the idea. I think sometime in May, I'll get out the charcoal and give it a shot!

I'll make "Hobo Dinners" or cook some salmon fillets. A hobo dinner is when you wrap carrots, potatoes and onions with a hamburger in tin foil and throw it on the grill for 15 to 20 minutes.

Propane and propane accessories including lava rocks. For sure faster and definitely easier to clean up and put away.

I prefer charcoal hands down. Using gas, I have to put in some of those wood chips in a little can. With charcoal, I can get hickory or mesquite and that is all I need. Nothing beats that smokey flavor.

Gas for me. Much easier to control temperatures. The only other thing I use outdoors is wood. I haven't used charcoal in at least 15 years.

I do love grilling a steak over the fireplace or campfire with apple wood.
