Look at this everyone:
The Leatherman Free series:

Would this magnetic closure system get around the anti one hand opening rules in some places or not?

I cant wait until the P series drops in June.

It still comes down to tool design and layout for me. I have no problem opening my Spirit one handed. I'll check them out but I can't say magnets are enough to get me really excited.

Are those available now?
I was looking at them when they announced them, but hadn't gotten back to see if they had actually started selling them.
Is there going to be one without a knife? Or with a removable knife? I need a good multi-tool for travel.

Two multitools from their P series are out, the P2 and P4. I might try one out.
Re: Leatherman's new Magnetic Closing and Opening Tools: Very clever design.
I love Leatherman tools and prefer their multi-tools over any other brand... and, I've seen video demonstrations of this new line with magnetic opening and closing tools... it seems like a cool design and concept... granted, I'll need to actually hold one to check it out... but, I'm not sure how well the tools will stay in the handles... in one video, the tools seemed to come out of the handle a bit too easily for my comfort, especially those with sharp edges... so, I'm not sure how strong those magnets really are.
Currently, I'm just fine with having to use two hands to carefully manipulate the tools in my Leatherman Super Tool 200 out of the handles, carefully select the tool I need, push the rest of the tools back into the handles, and push the desired tool into the locked position... I'm in no hurry when it comes to tool selection and deployment with my Leatherman. :)
