Jade (Natural) G-10 is there a more loved or hated material?
Jade (Natural) G-10 is there a more loved or hated material?
I've noticed on social media that Jade (natural) g-10 tends to fall into one of two categories with people.
1. That looks awesome, I really want that.
2. That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen.
I don't see a lot of neutral opinions.
With the new Shaman I've heard everything from 'Knife of the Year' to 'overpriced and fugly'.
So IS there another color/handle material that divides the community so? Lets discuss :D

There are plenty of love-it-or-hate-it colors, but I feel like translucent G10 has another layer of desire/loathing added by the not *quite* opaque but definitely not clear aspect...
As far as translucent G10 goes I think the S110V "blurple" is amazing, but I'm not wild about the red or jade/natural.
My divisive color is acid/hi-vis/zombie green, I hate it.

That's a good one. TOXIC green is definitely a love or hate color.

I don’t have any Jade G-10 and more’s the pity. I dilly dallied and missed the Jade M4 Military and I’m sure I’d have liked it.
The Burnt Orange G-10 on my Rex45 Militarily isn’t my favourite colour but it’s growing on me slowly and it’s way better than Black or Smurf Blue.
My two favourite G-10 colours so far are 204P Green and S110V Indigo and I’d love a Canary Yellow G-10 Military offering, perhaps in LC200N. :)

The really pale colours just strike me as impractical, that’s all, but then I’m someone who will by functional things (not clothes!) in the cheapest colour, anyway.
Re: Jade (Natural) G-10 is there a more loved or hated material?
I think natural G10 with satin blade and hardware is horrendous. But, natural G10 with DLC blade and black hardware...if I had the money or was around for all the various drops, I would probably buy them all.
It's got to be natural G10 or the BBS blue. No other colors seem to have such a divided following or lynching.

The most common "divisive scales" that I've noticed seem to be the natural g10 and blurple g10, as mentioned above.. both of which, I really like. Both of which, look a lot better in person than in stock photos online..
Maybe some of the Zome configurations also.. I find these very tacky, but many people seem to really enjoy them.
I supposed it comes down to everyone having their own opinions about aesthetics. I think it's pretty great that Spyderco has a variety of scale configurations to accommodate pretty much anyone's tastes.

I like Jade.
I think many folks are bothered by the fact that it looks glow in the dark but it isn't.
I dislike black scales and zombie green scales. Black is boring and I am not into tactical things. Zombie green is played out in both quality knives as well as gas station garbage knives. It is just pretty off putting for me now.

Have not had one, but I like the jade photos I have seen. I tend to favor that, earth colors in shades of brown or green and black.

Re: Jade (Natural) G-10 is there a more loved or hated material?
I got BHQ‘s M4 PM2 (already had several different M4 models and several PM2s) because I was curious about the jade G10. Curiosity satisfied.
I intended to get the M4 Shaman but was going to do it in spite of the jade G10... Color, I guess, is not mission-critical for me.
Overall, I’m not a fan of G10 (or FRN) colors being associated with a given steel or a given dealer’s exclusives. There are so many other colors to enjoy.
However, I imagine the cost of a sheet of G10 probably drops if purchased in bulk, thus favoring a recurrence of color. And such recurrences do tickle to the completist urge of collectors, so the matter of thematic colors is probably here to stay.
So, hey, if thematic colors encourage dealer exclusives, I will not complain.

I'm not a fan of the Jade. Even to the point that I have passed on many of those M4 Exclusives in my most desirable of knives (Millie, Manix 2, etc.) The Shaman in M4 might just be enough to convince me. That combined with recent comparison videos showing the size and shape when compared to the Strider SNG. I am torn though, the DLT Red Manix might just be a must have. I prefer earth tones for knives when available, but I have always had a desire for red G-10.

For me it's the one they call "tan" but looks more like the color of yellowed teeth. Ech.

I really like the look of natural G10 and a black finished blade but I wish Spyderco would do one in a stainless steel.

I don't have any natural G-10 knives and am not looking for one. Does not seem to be EDC to me.
Give me a "Murdered Out" (black scales black coated blade) knife.... I'll take it.

Funny how different we all are. My BHQ Para 3/DLC is one of my most used of my 12 Spyderco knives. I love the way the scales look when their nice and clean, in natural light. Great looking knife in a great steel, protected by DLC.Naperville wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 5:41 pmI don't have any natural G-10 knives and am not looking for one. Does not seem to be EDC to me.

Maybe I would like it...especially if it had a DLC coated blade. I do like the look. My big gripe would be keeping it clean if I EDC'd it.TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 5:46 pmFunny how different we all are. My BHQ Para 3/DLC is one of my most used of my 12 Spyderco knives.
