I'm on my own all alone on my darkest days
Because I made you the spark that lights the flame
I don't need your false affection
All my perfect imperfections
While you're alone with your perfection
Take a look at your reflection
And ask yourself why there's no one left to blame

Polly wants a cracker
I think I should get off her first
I think she wants some water
To put out the blow torch ...

;)

I think it's impossible to say which song or which melody or which lyrics are best. There are way too many. And even nowadays, new great music is being composed everywhere in the world.

Almost
cut my hair
It happened just the other day
it's getting kinda long
I could-a said it wasn't in my way
But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
Yes I feel
like I owe it
to someone
Must be because I had the flu for Christmas
And I'm not feeling up to par
it increases my paranoia
Like looking at my mirror and seeing a police car
But I'm not giving in an inch to fear
Cause I,I missed myself this year
I feel
like I owe it
to someone
When I finally get myself together
I'm going to get down in that sunny southern weather
And I find
a place inside to laugh
Separate the wheat from the chaff
I feel
like I owe it
to someone yeah

Best song opening in history...

“Whiskey bottle, brand new car, oak tree you’re in my way.”

Another, more obscure...

Well you crawl out of your cave with that bad look upon your face
And the wild ones they won’t look you in the eye.
But you’ll pick off a broken one, it’s cat and mouse you’ll have your fun
You’ll drop him, just to watch him try to fly.

But you don’t know what it’s like, baby you don’t know what it’s like
No you don’t know what it’s like, to be weak.
You don’t know what it’s like, you don’t know what it’s like
No you don’t know what it’s like, to be me.

The fire deep inside your cave makes shadows on your wall of shame
That you know, will never see the light of day.
But life’s a dream in black and white, the monochrome of day and night
And a shadow’s just another shade of gray.

But you don’t know what it’s like, baby you don’t know what it’s like
No you don’t know what it’s like, to be weak.
You don’t know what it’s like, you don’t know what it’s like
No you don’t know what it’s like, to be me.

It’s been a thousand years and nothing’s changed, you still play your worn out games
And the beaten ones still pull against their chains.
With a mercy plea and cry for grace they wave their flags before your face
But you just lick your lips and smear the stain.

And you don’t know what it’s like, baby you don’t know what it’s like
No you don’t know what it’s like, to be weak.
You don’t know what it’s like, you don’t know what it’s like
No you don’t know what it’s like, to be me.

Another all time great.

Gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get
Juiced in it
Nobody's ever taught you how to live out on the street
And now you're gonna
Have to get
Used to it
You say you never
Compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you
Realize
He's not selling any Alibis
As you stare into the vacuum
Of his eyes
And say
"Do you want to
Make a deal?"
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
A complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
Ah, you
Never turned around to see the frowns
On the jugglers and the clowns when they all did
Tricks for you
Never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't
Let other people
Get your
Kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your
Diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a
Siamese cat
Ain't it hard
When you discover that
He really wasn't
Where it's at
After he took from you everything
He could steal?
How does it feel
How does it feel
To have on your own
No direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
Ah
Princess on the steeple and all the
Pretty people they're all drinkin', thinkin' that they
Got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you'd better
Take your diamond ring
You'd better pawn it, babe
You used to be
So amused
At Napoleon in rags
And the language that he used
Go to him now
He calls you
You can't refuse
When you ain't got nothin'
You got
Nothin' to lose
You're invisible now
You got no secrets
To conceal
How does it feel
Ah, how does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Farwell Transmission:

The whole place is dark
Every light on this side of the town
Suddenly
it all went down

Now we'll all be brothers of
the fossil fire of the sun
Now we will all be sisters of
the fossil blood of the moon

Someone must have set them up
Now they'll all be working in the cold grey rock
Now they'll be working in the hot mill steam
Now they'll be working in the concrete

In the sirens and the silences now
all the great set up hearts
all at once
start to beat

After tonight if you don't want this to be
a secret out of the past
I will resurrect it
I'll have a good go at it
I'll streak his blood across my beak
dust my feathers with his ashes
feel his ghost breathing down my back

I will try
and know whatever I try
I will be gone
but not forever

The real truth about it is
no one gets it right
The real truth about it is
we're all supposed to try

There ain't no end to the sands
I've been trying to cross
The real truth about it is
my kind of life's no better off
If it's got the map or if it's lost

We will try
and know whatever we try
we will be gone
but not forever

The real truth about it is
there ain't no end to the desert I'll cross
I've really known it all along
Mama here comes midnight
with the dead moon in its jaws
Must be the big star about to fall

Long dark blues
Will o the wisp
The big star is falling

Through the static and distance
A farewell transmission

Early one morning the sun was shining
I was laying in bed
Wondering if she'd changed at all
If her hair was still red
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like mama's homemade dress
Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough
And I was standing on the side of the road
Rain falling on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues
Getting through
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam I guess
But I used a little too much force
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best
She turned around to look at me
As I was walking away
I heard her say over my shoulder
"We'll meet again someday
on the avenue"
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell
So I drifted down to New Orleans
so I lucky was to be employed
Working for a while on a fishing boat
Right outside of Delacroix
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind
And I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was working in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer
I just kept looking at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear
And later on when the crowd thinned out
I was just about to do the same
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered something underneath my breath
She studied the lines on my face
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces
Of my shoe
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said,
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burning coal
Pouring off of every page
Like it was written in my soul
From me to you
Tangled up in blue

I lived with them on Montague street
In a basement down the stairs
There was music in the cafés at night
And revolution in the air
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside
And when it finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keeping on
Like a bird that flew
Tangled up in blue.

So now I'm going back again
I got to get to her somehow
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives
Don't know how it all got started
I don't know what they do with their lives
But me I'm still on the road
A-heading for another joint
We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point
Of view
Tangled up in blue.

It's lonely out tonight
And the feeling just got right for a brand new love song
Somebody done somebody wrong song

Hey won't you play another
Somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
While I miss my baby
while I miss my baby

So play play for me a sad melody
So sad that it makes everybody cry
A real hurting song about a love that's gone wrong
Cause I don't wanna cry all alone

Hey won't you play another
Somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
While I miss my baby
while I miss my baby

So please, play for me a sad melody
So sad that it makes everybody cry
A real hurting song about a love that's gone wrong
'Cause I don't wanna cry all alone

Hey, won't you play another
Somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
While I miss my baby
while I miss my baby

Hey, won't you play another
Somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
While I miss my baby
while I miss my baby

Hey, won't you play another
Somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
While I miss my baby
while I miss my baby

I close my eyes
Only for a moment, and the moment’s gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity

Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind

Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Oh

Now, don’t hang on
Nothin’ lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won’t another minute buy

Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
(All we are is dust in the wind)
Dust in the wind
(Everything is dust in the wind)
Everything is dust in the wind
The wind

I can’t possibly pinpoint one song, BUT. Dan Dan John John and Marty of They Might Be Giants are some of the greatest lyricists of the last century. Just a bunch of friends having fun. Love it.

I’d personally recommend their self titled album as well as Lincoln, Flood, Apollo 18, John Henry, Mink Car, The Else, Join Us, Nanobots, AND Glean. They make a lot of music, all of it spectacular :D
Lightly insane.

Current spydie collection: Watu, Rhino, UKPK Salt G10 bladeswap, Yojimbo 2 Smooth G10 Cru-Wear, Manix lw “mystic” 20cv, SmallFly 2, Waterway, Ladybug k390, Caribbean

"Who'll Stop The Rain"

...
And don't forget Al Bundy singing this song :)

One of my favorite line:

And your telephone been ringing
While you're dancing in the rain

(Duran Duran, The Wild Boys)

Never got that, maybe it's because I'm non-native speaker.

Metallica - FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

Make his fight on the hill in the early day
Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey
On they fight, for they're right, yes, but who's to say?
For a hill, men would kill. Why? They do not know
Stiffened wounds test their pride
Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know

For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls

Take a look to the sky just before you die
It's the last time he will
Blackened roar, massive roar, fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now are his eyes to this mystery
Hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they see what will be, blinded eyes to see

For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls
And justice for all... :scales
