Sucks worse to have a forum polluted with spam. Manual approval of the first few posts of new users is a necessary evil, but serves the greater good.

If anyone else is stuck like this, the best thing to do is probably message a moderator and just ask about it.

A partial workaround might be to quote some of the points you are replying to, like I have done here.
Too bad reddit is such a pit of scum and villainy, as the multithread format would work well for knife discussions. I wonder if there is any other multi threaded discussion format.

I don't know if they have a standard amount of posts moderated, in my case it was 2. :)

We monitor the posts of new users to confirm that they are contributing genuine content that is relevant to the goals of the forum before we let them run free. We also do that in addition to our other duties here at Spyderco and during reasonable hours of the day.
I sat down at my desk 30 minutes ago and I'm barely into my second cup of coffee... I've already banned about a half-dozen would-be spammers and still counting...
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance...
