Spyderco Forums

I know we are not supposed to trade or sell knives unsolicited on the Spyderco forum, and I'm not trying to that here. But I have a knife or two I was hoping to trade for something on my wishlist, but I fear getting ripped off if I'm not dealing with a forum member....
So my question is, where do you guys trade your knives? And how do you avoid getting ripped off?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I haven't done any trading, gifted a few, but if I were, it would probably be on the exchange at BF or USN.

Have not traded as such, but have bought Randall's through them. Good to deal with and they do trade, as in sell on behalf or consignment.

These knives are bought and sold by Private individuals and Retailers.
I have not yet bought through the Site.
Sanders Knives also trades on Ebay. Seems to have a very large stock holding.

AAPK is a GREAT site.. They are more into traditional knives there though.. Honest/super people over there.. 10yr member myself.. John :)

I’ve had good luck on the BF exchange. Good people over there too!

In my experience I found trading not efficient. It is much easier to sell and than buy.
But you always can try Trading forums at Blade Forum. It didn't cost you anything.

I've had good luck at Bladeforums, also.

I think you need to pay to start a thread, but it's free to watch people put up offers and contact them when you find something you're interested in.

I've only had one trade that I have backed out of because the guy was overly interested in my trade and was pushing me to accept that his offer was equal to mine, which I knew was not equal.

You need to pay only if you want to sell. Something like $30 for a year.

Interesting. When I read it, it seems like it contradicts itself. I know they were flipping back and forth on the rule a few times in the last couple of years.

"Due to abuse and some thievery going on, this section now requires a paid membership in order to participate. You must have a Basic membership or higher to list a knife for trade."

I have only had experiences with person to person trading via Instagram, Vero and Bladeforums. All of those experiences have been smooth and pleasant though.

I've bought a few timed on BF's exchange, being a basic (non-paying) member I could post any "Interested" or "I'll take it" on knives and offers and I got some very hard to find pieces in there that way :rolleyes:
Further communication seller/buyer is done outside of the forum or via the Visitor Messages system available to every member :spyder:

To sell you need a Gold Membership (AFAIK) that costs about $30 a year, and you also don't see ads with that, you can close your threads (lock them) and also PM people, as far as I know

I didn't see this. But I didn't try to trade for years, since I found them not very effective.

The funny thing about that statement is that "basic membership" is free. So, which is it? (I'm not sure.)
