STI 1911/2011

Post by MacLaren »

Do we have any members that own an STI? In particular, the Apeiro? I've always considered STI a premier builder of 1911 and their own 2011 pistols. But, I've never had a c hance to fire one, much less look at one in person. But, that will change and that right soon lol. I won an auction on gunbroker for an STI Apreio.
I did a little research before bidding. It seems they sell for right at $2,200.00. Sometimes you'll see one for $1,900.00
At any rate, I won with a bid of $1,478.00. I guess she's mine now lol. All that being said, In would sure appreciate any and all feedback that I can get. Thanx much in advance.

Congratulations on your win friend. Never shot an STI before but your bid seemed like a great value. I have been wanting a Wilson Combat 1911 for years, now I am rethinking it and looking at their Brigadier 92G Beretta models.

Good buy on a great pistol. I own a couple and have built /rebuilt several more. You'll be happy with the purchase.

Mine will eat any ammo I feed it without any problems. They are well built and accurate. Enjoy it.

Never owned one but have put probably 100 rounds through one, stupid accurate!! A wholesale customer of mine had a seriously tricked out STI race gun he used in bowling pin competitions. Very impressive pistol, you'll like it.

Not an STI, but SV about the same.
This is the last one I built. Parts alone cost $1300, in the mid 90's. It has well over 100k rounds through it.

Let me step out on a limb here and speculate that judging from the speed rig holster, four double stack mags and the lack of optical sights, Mr. MacLaren was competing with a .38 Super race gun in the USPSA limited division. Between competing in matches and practicing, that is indeed a lot of shooting, and reloading.

It's a .40 cal. Yes, USPSA limited.
Prior to the SV, I used a colt gold cup for competition. It also has more than 100k rounds through it.
Minimum 500 rounds a week practice, plus 2 local matches a month, plus specialty and championship matches. About 10 years competing.
The Dillon 550 was a must.

Back then, "race gun" was used to describe the unlimited division pistols, the ones with optics and compensators/muzzle brakes, and yes, they were usually .38super.

You guys were my heroes when I participated a couple of years in the early '90s. And my heroes had knives clipped in their pockets. That's when I learned about Spyderco.

I've never shot competitively. But my dad used to in the "70's.
He shot PPC. I used to go to the matches with him. Well, just a few that were close to home. (Boone,NC) He shot a lot down in Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas. He shot a wheel gun.
6" Those were some good times.

MacLaren, did your dad shoot at the Mecklenburg Wildlife Club in Charlotte? I live in Gastonia, roughly 20 miles from there. Never was a member there but guest shot in a few friendly IDPA's probably 15 years ago.

Ooohhhhh sti!!
When I worked for a local gun store we carried sti and they are actually the largest sti dealer in Florida. Got to shoot a handful and fondle with lots. We got in all of their 1 of 200 models. We had a single stack apeiro with the island cut, fixed front sight on the barrel. One of the smoothest 1911’s I’ve felt. Loved it but didn’t love the price tag. Got to shoot the costa carry comp and some dvc’s. Amazingly accurate firearms.

Awesome!!
Dude, I think I really lucked up getting the Apeiro for $1,478
They sale for $2,200
At any rate, so good to hear that Apeiro is so smooth.
She's prolly gonna be a soft shooter too.
And, man do I envy You! Getting to shoot all those STI beauties!
Thanx for posting!!
