Integral handles are a sort of prestige item to me. They are claimed to be stronger, but I have never seen a knife fail at the spacer or standoffs. Stronger doesn't matter when every other design is strong enough. They are an awesome prestige item though because it brings to mind the machine-time that had to go into the knife to achieve the effect. I think that they certainly can have a nice look as well, but the knives with this feature are usually out of my price range and/or not a style of knife that I like.
