There are aftermarket butane inserts available, zippo even started making their own ones now but I've been using Thunderbird single and double jet inserts for a couple of years now with great success. Long term reliability remains to be seen but build quality is pretty impressive at that price point and no more fuel evaporation.

Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
Seems like I looked into this once before but never got one. Gonna check it out for sure. If I can get Bic dependability in a Zippo case that would rock.

Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
I treasure my HMS Invincible Hong Kong brass zippo, gifted by a great friend and from a time I clearly considered myself invincible & smoked.
Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
My thoughts exactly when I first heard about them. The single jet is a little easier on the gas but that double jet will toast any cigar in no time. They also come in a soft flame for pipes and zippo even makes a tesla insert using arc technology, which I can't wait to try. All in a field tested and battle proven package... pretty sweet indeed Sir.

It’s a sad state of affairs when it’s easier to find something on google than in your own home (I blame the Mrs tidying) but it’s one of these! Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
Looks nice, has your treasure been uncovered yet? The fact that it's listed on worthpoint suggests it's quite collectible, as most military zippos are in my experience. That said there's still deals to be made online, it just takes a long time to sift through so many listings to find the right one for you.

Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
Just finished repairing my XIV zippos. The plates had come off of both zippos cuz the glue was all dry and brittle so I nuked em back on with some industrial strength adhesive made in the good ole US of A. Thanks youz guys... anyone experience the same thing on their vintage zippos?

Not fancy. Only 35 ish years old. Carried in winter “in case” and to fidget back in the day. But, it’s a Canadian one. Only ones made outside of PA.

Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
This is probably common knowledge to all the butane folks but I bought a new single torch zippo insert and after refilling twice the insert stopped lighting. Switched back to fluid insert, left it alone for months and while cleaning up storage, found my torch insert again. I spent quite some time dedicated to micro-adjusting the igniter rod. I reread all the reviews and saw someone mentioning venting or bleeding the insert.max808 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 5:09 pmMy thoughts exactly when I first heard about them. I bled it with a metal pen and it started working again. Then found the cigarprop bleeder. The OEM zippo insert should have included instructions on bleeding the insert but I imagine it's similar to how knife boxes don't include instructions on oiling pivots and touching up the edges.
Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
Yeah, bleeding a butane insert regularly is a good idea. Also get the best possible butane you can find along the lines of zero impurities so as to not clog up the arteries. You could even get some isobutane, which has a lil propane mixed in for good measure but also considerably higher pressure and bigger flame. Excellent for us northerners or America in general right now.

Hilarious Doc, I know from experience it does hurt though having a spaztik 50lb 4x4 myself.

Re: Collecting Zippo lighters
Reason I got this display case is it keeps the dust out and only fits 15 Zippos. There's over 20 different variations not including IFOR/KFOR so when it's full no more... I promise!
