Besides the steel difference. ..what do you think of the Bark River compared to the Becker?
James
This Camp Creek handle is very ergonomic!

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???
I have had the Becker for about a month and I have had the Bark River for about a week so all I have at the moment are first impressions really. I have an Ontario Blackbird SK5 also which I have had for over a year.Extra330SC wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 7:30 pmBesides the steel difference. ..what do you think of the Bark River compared to the Becker?
James
-They are all 1/8 inch.
-The Becker has a tapered tang which is a pretty unique feature on a knife that costs around $100.
-The Bark River blade is longer and has less blade height.
-The Becker handle is taller but thinner. The Bark River handle has a similar width as it does height so it has a very comfortable broomstick feel while the Becker has a very comfortable flatter feel. They are both super comfortable but the Becker indexes better while the Bark River is more comfortable when I squeeze really hard. The SK5 is typically boxy Ontario. I like the feel and find it hand filling.
-The Becker handle is natural wood. It is not stabilized so it feels like real wood. Feels really nice but needs to be oiled and maintained.
-Bark River has a convex grind. The SK5 and Becker have flat grinds.
-The Becker is the only one without a sharp spine.
-The Becker is much truer to the original Kephart, especially in the handle. The Bark River is convex ground like the original but the original was a double convex that was convexed towards the spine too. The swedge towards the tip on the Becker and the not sharp spine are a nod to that.
-The Ontario is stainless which doesn't matter much to me in most cases but sometimes around here it is nice to have a stainless option. It has been raining here for weeks!
Here are comparison picks with my other Bark River, a Wilderness Explorer. Man, I love that Wilderness Explorer!

LT Wright Large Pouter. A five inch blade of 3/32 AEB-l with a distal taper. Thin and light. It is supposed to be sort of a camp kitchen knife but to me it is a light weight field knife. The pattern is a bit like an old trade knife.

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???
Thanks for the detailed information and pictures. I had the Bark River on my radar along with the LT Wright Genesis! Of course the BK62 was released recently...so I was leaning towards the Ka-bar for my first Kephart style knife. I'm not going to use it close to hard enough where I would need 4V. What do you think of the stock sheath that comes with the 62? Thanks again for the detailed response!bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 7:41 am!Extra330SC wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 7:30 pmBesides the steel difference. ..what do you think of the Bark River compared to the Becker?

Can't fit it in my pocket so it's on the belt. I wanted to carry my spyderco temperance today but I need to get a g clip for it.

Oh!!! There goes the neighborhood! :D
V8 Dagger!! Busse Combat in the house! :D
Btw, looks like David made that sheath? Buy Brown?
Awesome blade man.
Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???
Yeah I told him I'd be carrying it inverted so he tightened up the fit. It's not a quiet sheath at all. I can do jumping jacks without worry though. I need to make a spacer so it rides a little high.

Oh, I'm sure. David does excellent work!
Here's a sheath he did for my Foresaken Battle Mistress.
It has my family Crest on it.

That Busse FMV8 is just a work of art imo.

It's a fantastic throwing knife too.
