Re: What Are You Reading ?
Right now I'm going through several books. I've been reading National Geographic's Visual History of the World and just got to the early Middle Ages. This, and another book, The Symphony Orchestra and its Instruments , make good evening recliner reading.
Also I'm reading In The Best Families by Rex Stout, the third Nero Wolfe mystery involving Arnold Zeck. My lunchtime read.
And just began reading The Practice of Natural Movement by Erwan Le Corre.

Alison Arngrim's "Confessions of a Prarie Bit**"
She played Nellie on Little House on The Prarie
It's a very good read thus far.

Re: What Are You Reading ?
Have been reading a lot of Erik Larson's non-fiction.
Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania, 2015
Isaac's Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History, 2000
The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz, 2020
Thunderstruck, Erik Larson, 2006
The Devil in the White City, 2003
All great reads. Thunderstruck and Devil in the White City were especially noteworthy and two of the bests reads of the year to date for me. Both include a late 18th / early 19th century police procedural hunt for a madman. I have In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin, 2011 lined up to read soon.

I am sorry that I am prevented from attending your dinner tonight especially as I should like to pay my respects to Marconi, the young man who had the monumental audacity to attempt and succeed in jumping an electric wave clear across the Atlantic Ocean.

Thunderstruck
Beginning that Saturday workers would begin hanging cars, thus placing upon the wheel its first serious stresses. Each of the thirty-six cars weighed thirteen tons, for a total of just under one million pounds. And that did not include the 200,000 pounds of additional live load that would be added as passengers filled the cars.

Re: What Are You Reading ?
I am reading a draft of a book I am writing in the Fall Planet series called Fall Planet: The Giants Return, at least at this point. I have ordered a copy of A Patriot's History of the United States, which is a better book than the Marxist A People's History of the United States. I read enough of A Patriot's to know I wanted a copy. Can't wait till it gets here.

When I was in high school I did a book report on No One Here Gets Out Alive. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_One_He ... _Out_Alive)
Fascinating stuff to read. Probably pretty interesting to live, too.

That's an interesting take on US history (and philosophy), if you're interested in those things.

It's not a book, but if you haven't seen it yet, check out the documentary "Sound City": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_City_(film)
I have almost zero interest in what goes on in music industry, but I still found it really interesting.

I’ve heard of that title but never read it yet. Thanks for the heads up!

I really liked Krakatoa. Maybe I'll have to find a copy of that one, too.

Working my way through the commentary section of Pale Fire. I love books like this and House of Leaves where you don't necessarily read them front to back, but constantly reference different pages. Wish I knew of more books with unconventional structures.

Re: What Are You Reading ?
I bought a good dozen of Penguin Modern's small books. There's short stories, poems etc.
In my hand right now is Nabokov's Lance. I'd never heard of or read his works, and it's very engaging.
The translation reminds me of Lovecraft, in the wording and sentence construction if nothing else.
