So, who's from Texas?

And, which region?
Are you excited about the new switchblade laws?

I live in the Austin area, and today I start carrying my balisong, after finally finding it last night.

I haven't lived there since I was a very small boy, but I was born in San Antonio. I've lived in 4 states in my life, Texas, Iowa, Indiana, and South Dakota in that order. South Dakota has never had an auto knife ban and Indiana and Texas both repealed theirs this year. Now if Iowa could just get with the program.

Glad to hear you can carry your bali now. :D

It's good to hear switchblades are becoming legal in more places.
And, I'm glad too!

I was down in Corpus Christi this last week visiting my Mom (she actually lives in Port Aransas). I took my Hubertus auto as well as my new Domino with me. It was refreshing to carry that little guy after all these years.

But to be honest, the local constabulary in Port Aransas is pretty relaxed. A local hardware store owner said that if they ever stop you, just tell them that you are carrying "your fishing knife" and they'll shrug it off. It seems like everyone in town (except for the family beach-going crowd) was carrying or packing or both...

I'm in the DFW area, and glad they repealed the Switchblade prohibition, even though I don't own any. Assisted opening is about as close as I have to a switch blade.

Just be sure to read Doug Ritter's caution about not becoming a test case, they didn't necessarily remove the ban on ALL blades - things like dirk/dagger/stilleto (generally taken to mean double edged) appear to still be prohibited, I'm not sure about balisongs. Looking forward to Knife Rights' continued work in this area!

I'm in the Houston area. Does anyone know if the city here still has restrictions?

Lived just outside Houston for 5 years (Katy) Does that count?

Congrats on laws becoming more reasonable. Your gun laws need some work, iirc.

Yeah, not many local stores carry Spyderco. Since I'm in Garland on the east side, I've never made it over to House of Blades in Ft. Worth. I hear they have a good selection but are high priced.

I'm not sure about Houston restrictions, I believe San Antonio has some restrictions regarding locking blades.

Very true. I was in a small subdivision (Hickory Ridge iirc?) (edit - found it - 6919 Yardley. It was Hickory Creek, not Hickory Ridge)

I google mapped it a while back. Didn't even recognize the place. It was mostly pasture when I lived there.
