Having a young son, I used to spend quite a bit of coin in Toys r Us
until I realized that they had a No Weapons Allowed sign hanging.
Haven't been there in years. I have spent quite a bit at other stores
since, not that they would ever have missed it in the overall scheme,
but I wonder if others have done the same.

Some probably just ignore the sign and go on in and spend money.
I think that it would be better to boycott places like that. Of course it
would be better to let them know somehow. Maybe go in and hand them
a business card with a message on it. Similar to xceptnl's message.

Sadly yes. And if you ever have the grave misfortune to use a firearm to defend yourself, anything and everything you have ever said or posted: "...will be used against you..."

I'm a law abiding citizen who would carry a gun to protect the innocent in the same way that a police officer would. I have no malicious intent other than to stop the person who would seek to hurt others. I've seen far too many situations where a law abiding citizen could have saved some lives if they were carrying, so if I'm going to bother with a CCW permit, I'm going to carry it everywhere except in places that could get me a federal offense and get me in serious trouble (which are mostly places where there's likely some kind of professional security on the property anyway, like airports). I really don't give a **** that a movie theater has a sign that says no guns allowed, because if some maniac comes in and starts mowing people down with an assault rifle and I take him out and save a bunch of lives, somebody is going to be happy that I broke the rules. I'd be willing to face my punishment if I were taken to court over breaking that law if it meant I saved a few lives in the process. And besides, like Phil said, concealed means NOBODY knows you have it, and if you're doing your part right and properly concealing it, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about in the first place.
The Boy Scout and Combat Veteran in me applauds the "protect the innocent" sentiment here, but I don't believe CCW permits are issued for any reason other than defense of self and intimates, and even this use will be uncomfortably scrutinized for law-breaking, as self-defense classes I have taken made abundantly clear.

I am not advertising for them, but this is where I purchased mine a while back.

If I see a sign, I go elsewhere.

My reason? . . . I refuse to spend my money in a place that is anti-freedom / anti-2nd Amendment.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll go over to your competition and spend my hard-earned money over there.

That may depend on your jurisdiction. Protection of others is a valid reason to exercise lethal force in many places in the USA.

If it's prohibited by federal or state law, then I abide by the "no guns" LAWS.

In my state, however, the private "no guns" signs carry no legal weight. As such, I ignore them.

However, in my state, if you are "made" to be carrying a gun and asked to leave by the private property owner, you MUST leave.... or it becomes "armed trespass."

In 20+ years, I've never been "made."

Is that the question?

Perhaps you shouldn't admit breaking federal laws on a public forum...

Gunslinger wrote:I carry everywhere that doesn't have a metal detector, and the only place I've been that does so far is City Hall. I carry in my local post office all the time, I sell on Ebay so I go there a lot. None of my post offices have a no gun sign. My bank doesn't have it either.

The post office, any post office is federal property, and you are 100% prohibited from carrying there. If you carry a gun you NEED to research the places you may not carry it.

They don't have a No Weapons sign at the Toys R Us here in Roanoke. In fact, I've never seen a No Weapons sign at a commercial location, with the one exception of Lewis Gale Medical Center.

I carry everywhere it is legal for me to do so; this does not include where I work (Federal), even though a senior criminal investigator suggested that since I don't have to go through the metal detector . . . Just not worth it.

What many folks don't realize is it's not just the Post Office building where firearms are prohibited, but the parking lot, as well. Same thing for the campus of any VA Medical Center.
