Which cover do you like best for my book?

#1

Post by mark greenman »

Hey guys, I'm about to be publishing a book in the next two weeks, and I'm having a bit of difficulty choosing a cover.

I ran a contest on 99designs and got over 300 submissions, which I've boiled down to 8 solid covers. The problem is, I like all of them.

Can you check them out and tell me which ones you like the best?

http://99designs.com/book-cover-design/ ... ign=voting

Thanks,
Mark

#222 for me. Gotta love the florescent zombie green - you know it will grab attention on the book shelf!

I agree with cosmo -- #297. Your back-cover line is "Make the headshot." I think that is best and most accurately reflected in #297.

I don't like any of the covers with people in them -- you always take a chance on potential readers rejecting the book because they don't relate to the character, or don't like what the character is portraying, or how he's standing, or his choice of weapon, or a dozen other things. Let the buyer put himself in the picture and he can do that best when there's no one else to push aside.

330 is what I'd pick the others with people in detract from the topic IMO .
A lot of book covers grab you in that momentary glance .
Although as the saying goes ... It still happens its human nature .
For example 267 looks like a SAS or hostage style non-fiction book at a glance.
I think its the balaclava but that's what I meant by de traction .

I think I prefer #100 and #154.

My opinion might be more effective if based on reading the manuscript. I think the above suggestions make good sense. Focusing on the headshot is a good way to keep the attention of browsing folks, IMO.

I voted, and enjoyed all of the neat covers.

#319 . . . Definitely. It grabs the attention of those browsing in a bookstore.

Thanks for the input everyone, I really value all of your opinions.

Funny you mention that- the book is non-fiction. It's a highly technical guide to all aspects of pistol shooting, from the basics of trigger control to the chemical changes in the blood when experiencing the fight or flight response, and how to train to minimize those effects when under attack by zombies or apocalyptic outlaws.

It's based on extensive research into warrior science and firearms training, which is then applied to the unique combat anatomy of zombies.

Does that information change anyone's opinion on the covers?

330, more classy looking. If I were scanning all of the books at a store,
this is one that I would grab. Some of the over the zombie stuff now a
days can be a detraction from what a topic really is. JMO.

Congrats on the book.

272 for me. The design seems to be a good balance of fun and serious. It appeals more to me than say the zombie green one, which seems too much like other book covers I have seen. And I don't like the covers that have just photographs of people.

329 or 330. I would let the text speak for itself and avoid anything gory on the cover. People who will be interested in this book will see the "ZOMBIE" text and know all they need to know without a zombie face on the cover.
